Yes he’s very aware NOW. He has said multiples times that gay men make up 90% of his fan base.

But he had far more young female fans back when these photos were taken… he and his handlers may have been under some small delusion that photo shoots like this appealed to girls and women. But like almost everything about his career, it was the MALE fans that were snatching them up. Just like his Playgirl.

I was at the Baby Jane signing event in West Hollywood ages ago. So, long ago that it pre-dated social media and Internet ads. I just happened to see about it in the local gay press. Baby Jane's was a gay gift shop/memorabilia shop in Weho that hosted signings for the likes of Mr. Atkins. By the time I arrived, he was wearing just a vest and happily signing naked pics of himself. Acting is an odd profession. (I searched for a pic of the event and it is just as I recalled).
