I saw this picture you posted the other evening but forgot to reply to it. I'd had a rough week and kept passing in and out of sleep on the couch. My guess is some kind of synthetic boxer brief like UA or Reebok or similar. They're sheer for a flat molded look. I've seen some shots in the past of other hockey players in public and you can vaguely make out a jockstrap line.
5'8 is pretty short for me as a taller man, but it's such an adorable height on the right guy.
