They absolutely dated for sure. Troye pretty much confirmed it in a recent interview where he said that he went on a holiday to New Zealand with an "ex boyfriend". It cross checks with a tweet that a NZ radio station posted welcoming Troye and Connor to New Zealand.
Also I think one of the artists featured in Troye's Blue Neighborhood EP confirmed it on Twitter as well back when it was first released (and then tried to backtrack lol). Pretty sure Connor was the "beautiful boyfriend" that was accredited to in the Blue Neighborhood thank you notes.
Not just that but in Troye's last album there is a song that essentially talks about the breakup. He doesn't name Connor but he talks about how he got to travel the world and essentially get over the break up easily while Connor didn't and struggled with it. We know Connor had some mental health issues, maybe depression, a few years ago so the timing fits. It was definitely not a good breakup. I wouldn't say Troye broke up because he felt like a rock star but maybe he just didn't want to be distracted while releasing his major album with a chance to get somewhere in the industry. However, it seems like it took Connor by surprise and hit him a bit hard.
The Good Side is such a good song! Have you seen him perform it live at SNL? You could see him holding back tears as he sings it. It's almost as if he's singing it to Connor, it's beautiful.
Connor certainly didn't take the breakup well. He went completely AWOL after it happened and I think had to put a tremendous amount of work to move on from it. We'd never know why they broke up but too bad because they really did make such a cute couple.

Also I'm pretty sure the song 'for him.' from his Blue Neighborhood EP was written for Connor. In the vinyl track listing he says that this song was a last minute addition to the album because he wasn't too sure if he wanted to include it or not because this song was a special gift he wrote to someone with the lyrics being very specific and personal.
What a shame. Almost glad that their relationship wasn't made public because the drama would be intense I think. I mean we're speculating but it seems Troye really did Connor wrong but didn't care until he realized how he hurt him and tried to publicly apologize with his music.

A few people close to him confirmed that Troye met Jacob and started touring for the album. They kept a friendly relationship going but Connor was a little bit on the possessive side which lead to the inevitable break up and Troye giving into the temptation. The whole thing was a downward spiral toward the end of the second leg of the tour. It was definitely messy and words were exchanged about one taking advantage of the other for popularity. It is what it is now. Just glad we got a lovely album from it!
