Do we really need to put a label on his sexuality? Do we really need to compel him to pick a side when he still may be figuring things out? There's no need for us to be collectively obsessed with his inner desires.

You're forgetting you're on LSPG, a place where the sexuality of a hot guy is systematically analyzed and re-analyzed, just to conclude that he's obviously gay (or closeted, at least). I don't disagree with the fantasy aspect of it, but none of us knows what's in Daniel's mind. My point is that gays tend to fixate on labels in this big political/tribal game of Red Rover Red Rover, while ignoring that a young man's sexuality should be explored by him on his own terms. I only challenge these guys if they hypocritically promote a sexually repressive religion/ideology.

Overall, my original post was meant to challenge the character of a gay man who befriends an assumed straight man for the purpose of gossiping about his sexuality behind his back in a very public forum. This doesn't exactly help with the integration of gay men into the friendship circles of straight men. It also gives the homophobes a legitimate argument that they are judging us for the content of our character.

I'll add to your already very complete statement that the need of labeling, from a group of people who suffered precisely from being labeled, is problematic.

For background, this guy lives in my neighborhood. I see him and his family quite often out and about. I’m not close to them, but neighborly. I’m also closer to his dads age than him.
