David Boreanaz

I think Glenn Quinn was fired from angel due to his addictions. Interesting how his character was initially intended to be Whistler
I read in one of the Buffy oral histories that producers were not exactly thrilled by the influence Glenn Quinn had on David. Angel’s producers were concerned about how much time David and Glenn spent together clubbing and partying. Apparently Glenn frequently arrived on set still strung out on the drugs from the night before. Presumably David showed up once or twice after having what Glenn was having and the producers and network people basically told him to straighten up and stop running after Glenn Quinn if he liked having a show. David stopped going out all night getting fucked up with Glenn and Glenn’s character was written out.

That was according to whichever Angel producer the author of that oral history thing interviewed. He implied that the network wasn't so impressed with Angel in the first season that they wouldn't cancel it if David was getting strung out on drugs or did whatever that could cause them headaches.

Incidentally, a couple of the lesser known actors interviewed who guested on Angel and one of the directors did not have nice things to say about David. They all basically said he was a rude asshole. Literally one of the actors said “that Dude was an asshole,”

It's been said in numerous places that Glenn's character Doyle was always going to die mid-season, that it had nothing to do with the actor.

Gotta say, chubby David also really does it for me. Still has that gorgeous chest
He got a bit thick towards the end of Angel too and still looked good without his shirt off. Plus, dadbods are sorta in a at the moment (thank Hopper from Stranger Things).

Hey, they were randos being quoted in a BTS gossip paperback, not from some divine being from on high. There's a grain of salt you gotta take with these anecdotes.

Personally, I do think there was an issue with the influence Glenn Quinn had over David. But I also saw the blurbs that Quinn’s character was always intended to go out like he did. It's like the old cliche that when you have two points opposite one another, reality exists somewhere equidistant between the two.

It's much easier to say that instead of "we got rid of him because he was a heroin addict". You start saying things like that and suddenly you'll find no one wants to work with you.

At the time, Wesley had provided comic relief for half a season on Buffy and it's unlikely they ever would have had a huge plan for the character. But they brought Alexis Denisof back because they knew he could be trusted and couldn't afford to take another risk on a new actor and have it turn out the same way.
