I feel like young people are even more socialized to need a label these days. Maybe because sexuality is so out in the open? They seem to think they have to be straight or gay (odd since they can comprehend non-binary gender but not that there is more than a straight/gay binary).
I've seen it both ways, some guy who's only experience is with guys but says he's curious about women and not knowing what to do with himself. If something interests you, go for it. Stop trying to label everything.

i agree completely with what you’re saying that labels can sometimes really mess with us when we’ve felt like we identify with one for a long time and then suddenly it doesn’t fit. what i would say though is that labels can give a sense of comfort to people. it’s something to say ‘there are other people like you’, so i do also understand why people hold on to them
