Don't Believe We Live In A Rape Culture?

That's because people enjoy the legal activity of having sex with rich and famous people, and thus consent to it all the time.

No one likes being carjacked at gunpoint and it is illegal, hence we don't explore consent by the jacked party.

The only thing he was castigated for in the media was his arrogant, conceited attitude and clashes with teammates. Which is pretty much de rigueur for a basketball star. The pundits and talking head failed jock sports commentators all favored him and cast her in an unflattering light as a golddigger and fame seeker. This is a common practice when a money making golden boy is accused of something.

I don't remember the general attitude of all the sports talk folks...I'll take your word for it.

I do remember he got the full comb through by Denver PD, and the general public was not in consensus of his innocence, in part cause he wasn't very likeable.

Regardless, all we know for sure is...

- she went to his room
- they had sex
- she was upset afterwards

You disagree with the fact we question rape cases and not other crimes because of the fact sexual encounters are most often consensual whereas the crux of pretty much every other crime is most often not?

But consensual sex was not the topic here. Rape/rape culture is

The truth is, rape victims are not believed the way victims of other crimes are. And that is an awful, horrible fact.

Especially when the accused is a celebrity whose word is valued more, and often use their celebrity status to get away with murder, sometimes literally.

I suppose Bill Cosby’s victims also enjoyed being sexually assaulted by him, because he’s famous right? And who would say no to a star? *eyeroll*
Especially when it's the pudding pop man!

I am not the one that correlated the consent issue with other crimes.

The truth is, rape victims are not believed the way victims of other crimes are. And that is an awful, horrible fact.

I agree.

I'm saying that's because sex is usually a consensual action.

That is not the case with being robbed or murdered.

I assume this in reference to me...

I never said people enjoy being raped by celebrities, nor that they never decline the opportunity.
Actually you did. You said they consent to sex with famous people “all the time”:

That's because people enjoy the legal activity of having sex with rich and famous people, and thus consent to it all the time.

No one likes being carjacked at gunpoint and it is illegal, hence we don't explore consent by the jacked party.
In regards to that second paragraph above, no one likes being forced to have sex (whether at gunpoint or not). Perhaps if you had been raped, like many of us here have, then you might have a bit more understanding and empathy. And just because something isn’t necessarily violent, it doesn’t mean it’s consensual or legal.

Correct.

"All the time" is not the same as "Everytime".

I.e "Joe eats McDonald's all the time" does not mean he only eats McDonalds.

I never said people enjoy forced sex.

So here's a thing that grinds my gears. When people say false allegations makes things more difficult for the people who were raped/were racially discriminated against/were discriminated against because of their sexuality/or religion/etc. We live in a country and during a time when a supreme court judge can get away with being suspected of rape. A position that's for life. A country and during a time where the president of the united states can get away with being accused multiple times by multiple women over long spans of time. A country and a time in which he's almost directly tied to a known sex trafficker/pedophile. A country and time with brock turner. And many more cases exactly like those.

False allegations do not and cannot make valid accusations worse because most of the country automatically doesn't believe certain groups of people from the start. When the situation is that bad from the beginning...there is no further down.

Sure, there are false allegations. And sometimes those false allegations do ruin people's lives. Seeing as how rape is still consider normal enough for countless...and i do mean countless people to toss it out the second they get rejected in any way shape or form. Seeing as how actual rapes..child molestations and that sort of stuff still far far far FARRRR outnumbers false allegations then false allegations cannot and will not logically or morally hinder real ones.

The fact that people think it's even possible to do so is frightening. That goes to show just how much influence the wrong kinds of people have over everyone else. How logic and morally have very little if anything to do with how people evaluate important topics.

It's like saying the more our intelligence community gets it wrong about terrorists the less seriously we should take terrorist threats as a country.

Again, I feel like I should apologize for my fellow men and their fragile egos. I read just the first two pages of this thread and I had to skip to the end. Now I don't want to apologize for them, I want to bash their heads in. Who the fuck are these men and where do they come from? How pathetic were the male role models in their life that they think this kind of behavior is acceptable? UGH

That's horrible! Every girl has a story, usually many.

Guns should be a primarily women's right! I support the 2A for all but we're the ones who need it.

I haven't looked yet, but if a guy hasn't already said this I'm expecting one will "Not all men are violent! My Uncle Larry is the nicest guy ever – he wouldn't even hurt a fly!" 🙄

Firstly, legal paperwork.
Next, a bullet if need be to protect myself and the ones I love. View attachment 6690921
Good 2A but also good support of women's innate human right to individual liberty in how they approach their personal security!

Really, they're individual rights. Certain types of approaches to personal security is not acceptable or desired by some, and that's OK. Tasers, mace, and guns aren't for everyone. I'm from rural Arkansas, I'm fine with them becoz I've just always been exposed to them. It's no judgment either way. Men are 97% of the gun crimes, don't forget most of the assault, SA, violent crimes and the like. While it's never a victim's fault, I'd love for us to learn more about our personal protection options. Susie Q can't take down five NFL linebackers, but her .40 can.
