The director's own debut (Straight Up) is a lighthearted quasi-gay romcom with a twist. This is a full-on-gay dark dramedy, but none of the darkness stems from any of the characters' sexualities or shame around it. Judging an unreleased film (that's winning awards for a reason) just because it went viral for its comparatively brief sex scenes since that's all that a star's impatient, disrespectful fanbase would leak thankfully, is wild to me. Anyway, I think the film and DOB's performance is excellent; but obviously it won't work for every gay guy, just like any other recent buzzed-about gay film such as Queer, All of Us Strangers, Bros, Fire Island, etc.

I liked fire island. All us is strangers and queer sounded depressing. Grief and a drug addict.. okay haha no thanks. I may be judging it but that's not different than seeing a trailer and judging a movie. The premise sounds depressing. The press around the movie talks a lot about grief. I'm sorry the only thing I thought was exciting was dylans sex scene and even that was meh to me.

Yeah me either. This will die down and people will forget about it once it's released. I mean we've already seen the sex scenes. Personally, this is gonna sound dumb but it looked like acting to me which is not what you want when watching a movie but that's just me apparently. It did go viral haha

I think it's the film makers. They've seen one formula that works and go with it.

I like Fire Island as a fun romcom. And I really liked Queer and AOUS (and boy is the latter depressing). This will not hit the mainstream like any of those though. It looks interesting but it will be best known for the Dylan O'Brien fuck scenes, nothing else.

Just like Zendaya got pushed to the side by the gay scenes in Challengers lol LGBT creators always take themselves too seriously and are thirsting for awards. They know stuff like Red White and Royal Blue and Hearstopper won't make them respected so they put drugs, sometimes HIV, lots of unnecessary nudity and death. The awards always come... lol

Challengers is great! The story is about all three characters (and IIRC was written by a str8 dude). I'm not just saying that bc I used to fuck around with one of the bit players lol
