He did a lot more than 9 gay films. Plus he worked for websites that are now lost to time, but some of those scenes are still out there. Not all of his gay stuff is listed here, but there are more than 9.

I said 9 because that's what he said in the interview. But if he did multiple scenes in each of the 9 films, maybe some scenes were re-released in other compilations.
or perhaps in fact he has done a lot more, and he doesn't like to admit it or he doesn't remember exactly how many there were...

I believe this is more of a fetish issue, for some people seeing a "straight" man touching and rubbing his dick on another man is hot, it's like "he does gay things but without losing his heterosexuality" haha
An example: if Bel Gris had done gay and bisexual scenes from the beginning he would be just another porn actor, but he knew how to invest in the fetish of homoeroticism (making gay videos without actually being gay videos) and that made him famous.
