Yeah, I think that this has happened to many of the "straight" guys who have performed in porn over the last 10/15 years or more. Every guy (particularly every great looking kid who had the body and sometimes face for porn stardom) has a large group of people who know or recognize him - hundreds to maybe thousands of others who he went to school with (from 5K to college in some cases), work acquaintances, friends of friends, members of the same gym, sports acquaintances, etc. The list goes on. Everyone is known by someone - even if they picked up and moved to another state when they started their porn career. Social media has kept us connected - even those of us who don't want to be. This phenomenon has made it difficult for the newish crop of porn actors in way that did not really exist back in the 80's and the 90's and certainly not before. Many of them naively just did not assume that they would have difficulty going back to their "normal", everyday life after getting a quick paycheck to appear in gay pornography and most of these guys (particularly the Sean Cody set and similar) have girlfriends, wives, etc. in their day to day existence. I have seen the majority shut down social media profiles and often only re-surface with new names in order to remain as secret as possible. They often stop posting much of anything picture or news related even then. I can understand their desire for anonymity (I personally have never, ever contacted one or sent a friend request, etc.), but I also understand their fans desire to know more about them. To the fans, they are a "star" - not unlike an actor in Hollywood. The fans do not see their work as embarrassing in any way; they on the other hand find it to be a dirty secret and massive source of shame. It's a cycle that will never end well for either party.
That feature is disabled from time to time, but it has always come back.
That doesn't surprise me in the least. There's entire corners of the web where people try to figure out porn stars' real names. I don't get it. Just respect people's privacy and let them separate fantasy from reality.
I imagine a lot of these guys are just trying to get a quick paycheck, and then some freak social media accident happens like a GIF of them goes viral on Tumblr or Twitter, and suddenly their porn is thrust into the spotlight where a lot more people could see it. Pretty sure that's what happened to "Chaz." Before Tumblr got rid of all the porn, I remember a post of his Sugar videos getting thousands of notes/reblogs.

Of course there is interest, but the reason behind this interest and what people do with the information vary greatly. The vast majority just want to find day-to-day pictures of their "porn crush" that might be posted online - no harm done there. In some cases, they might want to see what a model looks like today (perhaps they retired and disappeared - as the vast majority of porn stars do). The "problem" fans are the ones who stalk and harass the models; THAT is what I do not understand. Some fans want some bizarre attempt a relationship with the object of their affection - whatever that means. Bad people exist everywhere and some of these types use personal information for negative purposes or let their irrational obsession with a stranger get ugly. The vast majority of fans who want to know more about a porn performer do NOT fit these groups however..
