Does a relationship in which both partnered are closeted ever work? Or is it just a sexual one with no strings attached and no hurt feelings?
yeah. from what i've gathered lots of people in super homophobic nations live like that. and it was also how lots of gay men and lesbian women lived in previous centuries. seen as bachelors/bachelorettes who are just close friends or roommates.
it's probably easier for when both are closeted than for when only one is and the other has to be dragged back into the closet
They are not in the closet for those who are important to them, their friends and their families, and that is what matters.

They are in the closet like Matt Bomer was in the closet. It was a glass closet. He was on a basic cable hit show and did tons of interviews and didn’t discuss his partner and later husband until he wanted to. Same with Zachary Quinto, Luke Evans, Lee Pace, Jim Parsons, Rosie O’Donnell, Queen Latifa, Neecy Nash, and a shit ton of others throughout Hollywood history.
And the same types of “rumors” followed him around from the time he was on Guiding Light. Rumors were that he also didn’t get Superman because he was openly gay in industry circles, which was too close to scandal for the suits and a major property.
I am sure they don’t consider themselves in the closet. Their families know, their friends know, and they are not trying to hide in public. They just aren’t cover of People/Out magazine gays. Yet. And maybe they never will be! Doesn’t change the fact Richard has been in two public relationships now with other men.

Yes, they are. They don't even publicly acknowledge they know each other, or are friends. They have never posted pictures of themselves together the entire time they've been together. They've only been photographed together in public two times - Venice, and London in about 9 months. They did go to the protests in LA together, but took separate selfies rather than acknowledge they were there together.
People learn from their mistakes. The papz followed Richard and Brandon everywhere, perhaps Richard thought it would be like any other relationship but it wasn't. The industry is homophobic and toxic. Froy and Richard are protecting their relationship, and this whole year was insane. Maybe we can have a little bit of them in 2021, but they're going to choose when to talk or what to post.

I'm not disagreeing the industry must have a lot of homophobic elements, but just an observation - for a homophobic industry, they make a lot of shows with gay content. Brandon's show, 13 Reasons Why, for example. Plus being gay and out didn't prevent Brandon from landing the role of the straight high school stud.
Yes, that's true, but it's also true that there're very few actors and actresses who are out of the closet and successful (there is still the debate about straight actors in gay roles. The representation is in half, almost representation. A gay actor winning an Oscar after playing Freddie Mercury could have been huge, but no) . I think the people who manage them, the PR teams have a lot to do with the image they want to give of that actor, and the roles they aspire to. Beards are still out there, fake couples, staged papz pictures, the public is no longer that naive about it like before, but they still try. I think Richard is already a respected actor, a golden globe winner, and an adult, I don't think his sexuality defines him, but that will be a decision that he will have to make.
Another thing, sorry. Netflix is not the entire industry. The representation in a Spanish series is not the same as the representation in an American or European series. Not even close. And if we talk about major studios, like Paramount, we must remember that Elton John himself intervened so that his film was NC17, and in 2019.... YES 2019, Rocketman had the first gay sex scene in a major studio production. Like I said, they try to be representative, but they fucking fail sometimes.
If they were really trying to hide we wouldn’t have seen them together at all, and certainly would not have seen any social media posts that clearly spelled out where they were- the house in LA, then traveling, then in Texas. I agree they are not posting photos together or acknowledging what is pretty evident, but they are not hiding. Same thing with Brandon Flynn, who is publicly out. They were seen together, he doesn’t care because in the kind of interviews Madden will be doing, they won’t push him and he will not say the truth until he wants to.

Richard effectively admitted he was in a relationship with Flynn in an interview with the New York Times. I think his career is probably solid enough to weather a magazine cover coming out, but Froy's is another matter entirely. The cloak and dagger approach may well be to keep him from being relegated to bit parts as some girl's sassy gbf on Freeform or the CW network.
Society has improved in a lot of ways. Is there a reasonable chance of that happening to his career?
Just for the record, I find it deeply ironic that some folks insist on antagonizing others on a porn-based message board called "Large Penis Support Group", in the 'Models and Celebrities' section, which has always been celebrity gossip and dick/ass pics. Gurl please. 
Secondly, the only ones that actually have the real power to 'out' any celebrity are industry professionals, the media, or people that actually know them. The very industry they are in is the very reason why people speculate. That's what happens when you treat something as a "liability". The only ones to actually blame are Hollywood itself and its own antiquated sexual politics. If such 'talk' is that horrible, perhaps it's time for the industry to evolve out of the fucking stone age... Until then, like anything in life, people will make observations (in their case, about things they haven't exactly hidden) and talk, because merely wondering and speculating that someone - particularly a public figure - may not be straight is not something that needs defending against.
Again, both these boys aren't exactly closeting the way they truly could be if they really didn't want even an ounce of speculation. They're not idiots. They know people know.
Learn a little about how Hollywood actually operates, and the situation with these two boys (like SO many that have come before them) becomes quite obvious.

Yep. The public perception has evolved on LGBT+ folks, no doubt, and more and more (particularly young people) are educated on how Hollywood has operated on this issue for decades. But the industry itself is still operating as if it's the 50s. Talk to any industry professional, and 'gay' is still considered "bad for business". The industry closet is alive and well.
There is definitely something to the fact that a lot of those who have come out (or been outed) often wait until a certain point in their career now... whether that's past the point of exhausting the leading man career path, or having achieved real success that one can then fall back on. I think that's why we see a lot of folks wait until the later years to come out.
That being said, there are the few exceptions, that seem to grow more over the years, where you see young actors come out or just be out from the get-go. But no doubt they've had "the talk" (as industry pros call it) with their reps about what they'll have to face, what they'll miss out on, etc. The ones that are willing and ready to face that and keep fighting are the ones that are going to force the industry to eventually evolve (albeit slowly). Being relegated to certain roles because you're 'out' is something I think many of them deal with.
Froy is still nearly at the beginning of his career. I'm sure there is a lot at stake.
On the other hand, I think of him 'liking' that twitter post of the Teen Wolf meme with wolf going "I'M GAY!!!". To just 'like' that publicly, during the year when everyone is already speculating, certainly says something (to me, at least)...

Yeah, well, I don't really agree with this. You talk like they're open and not trying to hide, which is not true. The tabs have managed to take pictures of them together once - in London, when they probably thought the coast was clear. The pictures in Venice - I don't even know who took those. They don't seem to realize they're being seen, in either set of pics. And the pics are something like 8 months apart. The other tab pics in Venice were Froy by himself. I mean let's be real, if they were not "really trying to hide" there would have been a lot more pictures, and Richard would have ventured out the front door once or twice.
The original pictures Froy posted in the house in Venice did not clearly spell out where he was. Hindsight is 20-20, but nobody knew where those pictures were taken, at first. Other than Froy posting a random picture of London. If they were not "really trying to hide" they would have posted a picture of themselves together at the protests. Or in a group of people. They were clearly trying to keep it on the downlow. Other than not posting to social media at all, or having beard girlfriends, I don't see how they could have been more discreet. I don't even know why this is a question.
I guess we are talking semantics. I don’t see it as hiding if they are out in their lives. They are traveling together, people see them together, etc.
They just aren’t letting the public into what they are doing.
It is super easy to post on social media in a way that people do not known exactly where you are or what you are doing. Do I think they are being discreet? Yes. Do I think they are being more discreet than Madden was while seeing Brandon? Yes. But I wouldn’t say hiding. There are queer celebrities that dated and the public never learns about what they are doing.
And Madden has enough of a name now that he doesn’t have to depend so much on his social media following to secure meetings for projects. Froy, however, does still need to do whatever he can to raise his profile. It’s pretty clear neither one of them wants to be publicly out. But I wouldn’t say they are hiding.
