I guess we are talking semantics. I don’t see it as hiding if they are out in their lives. They are traveling together, people see them together, etc.

They just aren’t letting the public into what they are doing.

It is super easy to post on social media in a way that people do not known exactly where you are or what you are doing. Do I think they are being discreet? Yes. Do I think they are being more discreet than Madden was while seeing Brandon? Yes. But I wouldn’t say hiding. There are queer celebrities that dated and the public never learns about what they are doing.

And Madden has enough of a name now that he doesn’t have to depend so much on his social media following to secure meetings for projects. Froy, however, does still need to do whatever he can to raise his profile. It’s pretty clear neither one of them wants to be publicly out. But I wouldn’t say they are hiding.

I agree that they are somewhere in between hiding and, well, not hiding and just living their lives without coming out. Clearly there is a level of "hiding" and being very discreet. If they weren't hiding, they would post pictures together, Froy would have been tagged in the group outings with Richard's friend group where everyone else was tagged, they'd have been seen together more often. However if they were really committed to hiding, we wouldn't know anything about them. They wouldn't like each other's Instagram pictures, they wouldn't follow the other's friends, they wouldn't go to holiday gatherings with the other's castmates.

Some closeted celebs who have secret relationships might not live together, or might not be together every day. That makes it much easier to hide. Froy and Richard being together during the pandemic has made it harder for them to hide. They might not have even moved in together, if not for quarantine.

I don't think they wanted their relationship to be public at all. It was found out. Even after it was found out, they didn't ease up on the secretiveness.

Maybe they don't feel like going to absurd lengths to hide out. They still want to have lives. But think about it: if you were a famous person, living with someone, and you were being stalked by the paps, how would you live where you currently live, come and go, etc., and almost NEVER be seen together (or even separately)? In 10 months? And you even traveled to Europe? It would take a LOT of work, and secretiveness, to pull that off. That's all I'm saying. They're trying really hard to be as secret as possible.

I realize liking each other's posts says something different, but it also isn't an admission of anything, exactly.

I agree except for the more discreet than he was with Flynn. The main difference is Richard was dating Flynn right after he won a Golden Globe and spent the rest of the year promoting a movie, campaigning for an Emmy and also it wasn't during a pandemic. He got papped a lot, with and without Flynn. He also got to bring Flynn to a few events. Almost all of his relationship with Froy has been during lockdown. Even so, they got papped in London, got seen at some restaurants. Another difference, Madden never posted when he was on vacation with Flynn. Not a single landscape or hint. With Froy he posted from their trip to Scotland, he posted from the protests.

Otherwise I agree. Madden never posted a single pic with his last girlfriend either. I think if he did come out some people would be disappointed because he has no interest in sharing his personal life. And neither does Froy apparently since no one can even name a previous partner that he confirmed he was dating.

But those straight celebs don't have to deal with the multitude of 'politics' that gay/bi/queer celebs have to behind closed doors. Or have their entire future careers be in possible jeopardy because the public knows who they are dating. LGBT celebs are forced to play a different game (even more so depending on their already established career/image).

Honestly, if it wasn't for Richard, Froy probably wouldn't be getting this kind of attention anyway. He wasn't at the level yet of getting followed by paps, at all. That started up because of his association with Richard, starting with the walk on the street in Venice. Really, that's what started it all. I mean, if they truly didn't want anyone knowing, they never should have done that to begin with. A high profile celeb that knows he gets papped, coming off the back of a previous situation with another younger man, that he didn't exactly hide but didn't exactly acknowledge, now seen with a new one blatantly out in public...
It's the previous Flynn situation that actually creates the precedent for this situation and all it's "speculation".

I do agree with what someone said above, that I think it's more so about protecting the relationship itself than just the sexual orientation angle (which is still a part of it).

I agree with all of this except the part about Madden being more discreet now than when he was dating Brandon. Nothing has really changed there. They haven’t been papped as much, but they also haven’t been traveling much or done any public appearances or promos due to the pandemic. And Richard hasn’t done any interviews and has never even faced any questions about Froy. (I’m guessing his answer would be the same: “I don’t talk about my relationships.”)

If anything, I’d argue that Richard sharing those pics from the BLM protests that basically revealed he was there with Froy was a result of him being LESS discreet. He never did that with Brandon.

The story I read in a gossip blog about that stroll was that they were either going to or coming back from (I don't remember which now) one of Froy's friend's birthday party. If true, Richard probably did not care much and just wants to do something for the new bf ... meet his friends. Unfortunately, someone may have tipped off the paps.
