hello, I was just curious to know if there's a rule/protocol etc that prohibits ONLY male frontal nudity on tv shows/series, but not female frontal nudity. After watching so many tv series, I see in around 98% of (softcore) sex scenes, you see female frontal nudity but not male frontal nudity so I am thinking maybe directors/producers are required to follow a rule that's why its so? or is it because of viewers preference? that both male and female viewers prefer female nudity and are offended by male nudity, is that what is driving this trend? and maybe my assumption is wrong, so please feel free to share some tv series where both male and female frontal nudity is shown.....

From what I know, all international censorships consider the show of genitalia to be strictly forbidden. Chest area differs from country to country though for both male and female.
That's the reason why when it comes to female nudity on screen, the lower area is either darkened (from light effects and shadowing) or will show an object blocking that part. Also, in production, it is mandatory for both male and female actors to place genital guards or vanity patch during those scenes.

british are less prudish about that

Nudity has been on Australian free to air TV for years, although a lot of it has been European or British. In recent times are the dating shows Naked Attraction (UK), Adam & Eve (various European countries). The medical series, Embarrassing Bodies (UK) has been around for a while. Number 96 was an Australian soap opera in the 1970's, and was the first I believe to show nudity. 'Sex' was an Australian series in the late 80's/early 90's about the subject. There was a UK documentary series a few years back; I can't remember the name of it, but the host was fully naked with an Ethiopian tribe. An Australian series about the navy showed the guys getting out of bed, and that some of them slept naked was completely incidental. In one of the Bondi Rescue episodes they showed nude people at Bondi Beach when Spencer Tunic was out here doing one of his nude art things. Of course, the French series 'Nude' was another one. Big Brother was quite prolific with the shower scenes. There's also been various documentaries about nudism. The movie Porky's has a short scene with naked guys at the beginning. The movie Head On showed a brief naked in bed masturbating scene. Both these were broadcast uncensored. In all these shows you saw the penis. The only criteria is nudity can only be shown after 8:30pm, though I recall one documentary that slipped through on a Sunday afternoon about Ethiopia, and showed naked guys in a pool somewhere. There would be more, but you get the idea.

thanks i didn't know that Australian TV is more relaxed on male frontal nudity than others, or i should say Australian TV is more equality driven in nudity then...could you post link to some of the episodes/series you mentioned or is there already a thread for those?? also, i have heard Australian men in general are more okay with men's nudity as compared to north american men, i mean living in north america, i have seen men getting offended by seeing a man in briefs, let alone seeing naked man.. but i have heard many men in Australia wear briefs without having to be immediately labelled as gay or something, is it correct?

Yes, you're right in assuming Australian (and NZ) men are more comfortable with men's nudity compared with the U.S. at least. No problem at all wearing briefs, and Speedos were an Australian invention. In fact, our culture of short shorts would probably come across as gay or indecent in the U.S. On the contrary, short shorts are considered quite masculine and straight here. I remember a work colleague who told me his son was chased off a U.S. beach for wearing Speedos.
Here are some links to info about some of the TV shows I've mentioned, though not to any particular episode. No doubt an image search would bring up particular scenes.

well what about the USA!
Usa nowadays is the country who display most male full frontal nudity than other countries , for example this year Eden 2024 with a full frontal nude Jude Law in the movie or Saltburn with barry kheogan full frontal nude final scene, however there is a big difference between the list with 4100 titles and the list of 16800 titles

Firstly, female genitalia is very rarely shown in films, I think it's probably actually more rare than male genitalia. Yeah, you might see female bodies nude from the front more often than males, but usually you can't actually see the genitals when a woman does that.

Secondly, in the OP you specified in sex scenes. It seems that they usually avoid showing genitals in sex scenes. If genitals are shown it will almost always be in a non-sex scene. I think there's considered to be a fine line between a sex scene and porn, and to avoid crossing that line they avoid genitals in sex scenes.

Also, I agree the whole "US is so conservative" trope is outdated now. It was true in the 90's and 00's, and maybe before. Nowadays US entertainment is packed with tons of sex and nudity, probably more than anywhere else (and also it's so often gratuitous and done for titilation, which wasn't the case in European shows and movies most of the time, in European shows it would normally be a case of "Well, the character would be naked at this point, so the actor will have to get naked", in the US it's more like "Let's get this hot actor/actress to get naked a few times". You can also see the difference because US nude scenes are almost always extremely flattering to the actors, making them look as sexy as possible, with lighting, angles, making sure the actor has pumped muscles, etc. whilst European nude scenes try to be more realistic and often arent flattering to the actors).

It's pretty much at the point now where every attractive American man gets naked, even non-famous ones. Whether it's for a photo-shoot, leaked nudes, nude scenes in TV/film, OnlyFans, just self-posted ass pics on Instagram, etc. It's at the stage where I am actually shocked when I find an attractive American guy who hasn't done nudity. In other countries it's not THAT common.

Our hopes of getting some full frontal male are in Hollywood and HBO ( both are from USA ) well HBO is extint but nowadays have other name (irony considering that historically hollywood and hbo don´t liked male nudity for decades) I don´t expect anything like that in other countries because they are female focused(except south east asia countries and india that hardly feature any nudity) , but at least we get a full frontal Jude Law and male full frontal in Industry and house of dragon series , however nowadays there are more female directors and I naively think that female directors will tend to display male nudity in their productions , as men do with women , but female directors seem to be more focused on female nudity than male , I don´t understand , save us Hbo

true but still

USA productions still call european (mostly italian, french or british) actors to show some nudity.

For example We are who we are is american-italian production. The full frontals came from:
  • an italian actor doing all the ridicoulos scenes (including one in the cold sea where his penis looked awful small) in front of the rest of the cast
  • an israelian actor
  • and Corey Knight (not sure if he's american)
I was feeling bad for them because it looked like the americans were the untouchable stars and the others were tier-2 actors to strip naked.

On the women's side it was the same (90% of nudity coming from the not american actresses).

See female nudity is more accepted then male.
