As much as I love Elite-style, borderline explicit sex scenes, I find that obsession of us gays of having every single gay story as sexualized as possible disturbing. It is the people whining that "Netflix could have had sex scenes in Heartstopper S2" all over again.

Red, White and Royal Blue is supposed to be a gay rom-com, but still a rather tame rom-com, for God's sake. Not all gay films must have half an hour of doggy-style pounding, just like not all straight films do.

We should just accept, better yet, we should celebrate that our stories can be told without it being completely sexualized. We are just like everyone else, and so we can have both heavily sexualized gay stuff and touchy-feely family-friendly gay stuff.

Considering for plenty of years (since we've been allowed to be shown on television as more than just coded) gay representation has been this1691821397420.png

I think we're due some sexy shit. Especially since we do have stuff like Heartstopper that balances it out. Straights get to fuck on TV all the time, let's see some steamy dude on dude action.

The problem was that the promo by multiple sources and official RWRB accounts kept advertising about how "famously horny" and "sexy" the movie was gonna be but in the end it was tame as fuck.
Personally, the lack of explicitness from the sex scene was so baity and clearly from the result of casting someone straight to play a queer lead in a movie that is R-rated mind you. Its so disappointing.

Lol that was not it, we have so many instances of straight guys going at it heavy for gay scenes. Prime just didn’t do that for this one probably because it’s a YA novel turned into a pretty PG film…

I wouldn't call the book a YA novel lmao, it had several indications at some parts that sex was happening.
The movie itself received an R-rating too so I'm very skeptic as to why there were no butt shots in that one scene whereas the dark haired dude showed his ass later on.
