It's funny, the characters started off as focus characters of an issue of the original Sandman comics, and then got more focus as part of the "Children's Crusade" crossover, and then the Dead Boy Detectives spin-off comic happened.I find it amusing Dead Boy Detectives originated as a spin off for Doom Patrol for (HBO) Max.
Then it became a spin off for The Sandman on Netflix.
Gonna start it soon but George is very pretty. Jayden too.

So then of course they did the "DBD" episode of Doom Patrol right and they plotted the spin-off but they couldn't have intended it to be too spin-off-y because they recast the whole thing and changed the situation. But then they changed networks - after they filmed it - and re-connected it to Sandman but only partially, because it includes Death but Charles dies in a very different way from the original Sandman comics.
Yup I was initially a little wary of the complete redesign of Charles but so far (five episodes in) I am digging the show.I think ageing up the characters was a smart move too tbh. Funnily both Ty Tennant and Sebastian Croft in the Doom Patrol episode looked arguably more comic accurate (albeit older) and were great in that episode. Saying that, recasting the roles with George Rexstrew and Jayden Revri has worked out so well. They're excellent as Edwin and Charles.
