Scams vary greatly.

They may involve ‘assets’ such as crypto (ie unregistered securities) or Nigerian princes (ie sending money offshore) or dead relatives with bank accounts (ie fees in advance) or using your bank account (ie money laundering).

What they all have in common is that they play on human greed and stupidity.
The victims never ask themselves, if this scheme is so very profitable, why do they need my money?

It’s why no-one serious in NYC who was rich was taken in by Bernie Madoff and his ‘black box’ formula for beating the stock market.
