Because his name is easily pronounceable in Portuguese ... HIS language.

especially if the majority of your viewers are from English speaking countries. it's all about business. Make it as easy as possible for people to spend their money. If the majority if your fans/viewers can't spell or pronounce your name then it's a problem! Actors/actresses in Hollywood have been changing their names for decades for just that reason.
