For the holidays I picked up a seasonal job at a sporting goods and apparel store. I often help people make decisions on the best equipment and sports apparel for their sport. Protective cups are an item that we sell often and they require a type of fitting the same way a bra specialist would help women find the best bra size and the type of support necessary. I recently had a young bro come in with specific questions about a protective cup. According to him he had a growth spurt and he needed something that fits him better. He was rather tall and thin but definitely in the 18 to 22 age range. He specifically came up to me as the only male that was there at the time. I'm so used to men coming to me when it specifically has to do with the jockstraps and protective cups and that's usually when they are having a hard time deciding on what they should get. I directed him to the Shock Doctor brand which is our top seller. He told me his old cups are too small and uncomfortable. I asked him if he remembered the size and he didn't even realize that cups came in different sizes. He found one of the wall as a reference to tell me the size he had and he was wearing a Junior size which is the size just below an adult size. I could tell from his height and weight size that he was definitely wearing a cup that was too small for him. I showed him the cup size he should be wearing and he asked if it would be possible for him to put one in his shorts to get an idea. We have demo cups on hand for this purpose and we sanitize them so that customer can just pop them down in their underwear to see if the fit suits them. He chose to test it out and asked me if we had an area that was more private with a mirror. I showed him the fitting room and he asked me if I could come with him so I did. I stood outside the door and waited for him to put the cup in. He open the door and stood there is his boxer briefs with the cup in his drawers. He confirmed that the cup felt much better than his old ones. He had more questions but he was nervous about asking so I told him he could ask me anything. Although we were alone at the fitting rooms he dropped his tone more and asked me if it would stop him from getting "boners" or help hide them. To that I said that it wouldn't do anything to stop them but it may help with making them less noticeable. For a young dude his age it was a genuine concern as unwanted boners could occur at the most random times. I wanted to assure him more so I inquired about which sports he played since the type of uniform would play a part into if it would be less noticeable. He told me he played several sports which included lacrosse, soccer, and baseball. I knew that the soccer and lacrosse uniform were loose shorts so concealing a boner wouldn't be too hard but baseball the pants are more fitted. I advised him to get some baseball pants that were a little looser and it would help but really wouldn't be much of an issue either way. He seemed satisfied with the advice and purchased 2 adult sized cups then I helped him find the compression shorts that they would fit into which are just compression cups with a pocket for a protective cup. He picked a few compression shorts and at least one old school jockstrap with the ass out. Overall he was very satisfied with my help and said he was glad he worked up the nerve to come into the store instead of ordering online since those items wouldn't be returnable after worn.
