Depends on the hotel, but most receptions do not monitor who comes and goes. So unless your intended visitor is obviously dressed provocatively, there shouldn't be a problem. My favourite hotel for this kind of hook up is one of the no frills type, common in the UK for business travellers. The town centre one I use a lot has the added advantage that the elevator is accessible by anyone at street level, and the reception floor can be bypassed completely.
