I never cared when going to the gym .. I’d get sweaty so go take a shower .. one guy there was just changing into his gear to work out and he started a conversation with me about putting my dirty sweaty clothes in same bag with my clean ones.. then next time put clean clothes in it would just make them smell..

I've been several times to onsen. and one or two times, I saw guy walking with erection. at that times, we were like 5 guys, but nobody cares. everyone mind their own business.
so, my suggestion is walk with pride, lol. as long as u don't stare at people cock more than 30 seconds, I think they will also not gonna stare.

As I go to Onsen so many times, at least once per month.
Nobody care if you are walking or sitting with boner. Every onsen will provides you at least a small tower for you to cover it, you will see some people walk with towel cover it and walk with towel especially the onsen that has strict rule about inappropriate action you will get banned.

Myself sometimes get boner as well especially when I sit in the sauna for a while but I always go shower and hot pool or cool pool will soften you down.
