It's only an unsubstantiated rumor:

1. His wife is not as a attractive as he is handsome, so people suspect that he is gay.
2. He also starred in "The Boy From Oz", where his character was once married to Liza Minnelli and turned gay.

The speculation results from these two points. I would believe it if he were seen in more compromising positions with other men off camera.
