No i didnt say that AT ALL. You are using a straw man argument. You are putting words in my mouth and then arguing against those words. I’m just saying that identity is how people conceive of themselves and it is shaped by a lot of different factors. This sounds complicated but it’s not. For example, If someone comes up to you and says “I’m a very good person. I’m also very intelligent. I’m nice.” Does that mean they are a good person that is intelligent and nice? No. It means that they conceive of themselves as a good person and they think they are intelligent and nice or they want you to think that they are intelligent and nice. Does that mean that I have to go around calling them good and intelligent? Absolutely not. You are advocating that everyone’s self concept is equivalent to a third-parties experience of that person. That could not be further from the truth. So when someone self identifies as straight, that means they self identify as straight for whatever reason. It has nothing to do with anything else. It’s how they choose to present themselves to some or all people. Thats it.
