sorry to interrupt all the dan fiction for a blip of reality, but anyone who hasn’t needs to go see the new movie. it’s underperforming and it’s a really fun solid movie. if it flips too hard we may never have the jack and asher duo again.
I hope it doesn't. The first Shazam is one of the better DCEU films.
I think Shazam is the best in the DCEU but they lowered expectations from opening at $50 million to $30 million on a $125 million budget. It’s looking like it’s gonna be a big loss.
I like both Shazam movies but that's clearly a minority opinion. The Ant-Man Quantumania basklash has hurt the Shazam movie in my opinion. That movie was so poorly received that I think it turned people off of Superhero movies at least for now. I don't think we can blame Marvel movies for the long-running failstate of DC.
Superhero fatigue is very real because Marvel keeps hiring try hard directors while also overworking VFX artists to the point that it has actively been hurting the content for a year, maybe longer.

Marvel needs a reset after carpetbombing the audience with streaming content in the last couple years, content I, a longtime comic book fan, cannot keep up with and don't want to on top of the movies. Wandavision was one thing, a dozen shows is another. Hopefully they are going to reset going forward, as they've suggested. But they have a built-in audience cachet. DC has a much tougher uphill battle. Anyway, this is wildly OT.
not sure what you mean by reset exactly, but it does sound like Bob Iger wants to slow down the pace a little bit going forward, which would be a good move. That said, the next film on the way is Guardians 3 which is likely to get a better reception than Ant-Man
Another big problem is that Marvel isn't really making movies per say but trailers for other movies. Every movie has to connect to the next 5 movies coming down the pike.
while marvel fatigue is very real, it has nothing to do with dc. dc movies have been bad for quite a long time. probably because dc spent so many years mainly focusing on batman and superman, just making the same movie over and over again, and never really did any of the proper work to expand its universe. their tv shows(on the cw) did well for the first couple of seasons, but the quality would have a nosedive after the first season, making a lot of people quit watching.
the franchise is getting rebooted regardless, so it doesn't really matter how well shazam does, that cast is gone anyway. i've seen some complaints about the movie not being very good, mostly because asher's character is much more grounded in comparison to zachary's and it'd be better if they had a personality switch, because shazam acts too goofy and child like compared to billy. there might also have been people who maybe considered watching the movie but decided against it after zachary recently revealing himself on twitter to be an anti vaxxer.
but even before the movie came out, most people were expecting it to flop. i remember being on a movie subreddit, and there'd be a few posts that were either shazam related or dc in general related, and a lot of people agreed the movie wasn't gonna do well in the box office

That was my only issue with the first movie. It's like there was no communication between the two actors when developing the same character. It's not even a lore thing, because Shazam's siblings maintain their personality traits in their avatar forms. Other than that, it's a good movie.
I like the Shazam movies. They are the only DC movies I actually do like. I hated most movies from the Snyderverse.
I think Asher and Jack will work together again because they clearly fit well together and have great chemistry. Maybe in something horror related?
