Agreed, it’s an opinion, but it could be a hurtful one. You said “If he had left his nose alone…” which could insinuate that he made this choice for vanity. That kind of proves my point… We don’t know that’s the case, at least I haven’t seen any revelations from him.
We all have something about ourselves that we’d like to improve upon, and for him maybe it was his nose. Personally, I can’t really tell a big difference and there is SO MUCH more to him than just that. I’ve spent my whole life unhappy with my smile, and finally I’m in a position to fix that. I’ve never heard anyone disparage my smile, in fact I’ve gotten compliments a handful of times, but it doesn’t change how I feel. I’m working to improve my smile for me, and nobody else. With that being said, if I finish up my treatment and people started talking negatively about it, it would hurt my feelings. Is it my “fault” for deciding to change my smile? Sure. But that doesn’t mean that I should have to endure unwanted opinions or critiques. This could be applied to anything… a new haircut, a new outfit, new shoes, etc.
It’s true that opinions are subjective, but it doesn’t mean that we need to share them unsolicited with others, especially if our opinions may hurt others.
Just my opinion! I appreciate the discussion, so often people on this site just get grumpy instead of having an open dialogue.
