The hopeless romantic stuff kind of goes hand-in-hand with being a prude. It's basically sexual conservatism which is why it seems so hopeless. They factor sex into "true" emotional connection when it's essentially a separate. After centuries of masturbating, it should be common knowledge that they aren't dependent on one another. Jack tests the water to see what fits, and he's gotten away with it this long because he has somewhat of a personality. Travis gives to get in order to make something fit, and the desperation is clear due to not having much of an individual personality. He always seems lost because he defines himself by whoever he's with or whoever he's hoping to get with. In short, he is Quinn Fabray from Glee
. Not lonely enough to give himself to just anyone, but hopeless enough to give himself away completely to any hope of the "right one". They both sell sex appeal like a priceless heirloom because their platforms run on it, but they value it too much for themselves to follow through without feeling devalued. Travis is finding power in that separation, or at least the power of stuffed pockets. He's still desperate to be "completed" but either way I hope Jack follows his lead very soon. He would do it so much better too.
