I never have seen the appeal in much older guys myself however I believe Jake is probably attracted to older men because in general they are alot more stable in life in terms of maturity, financially and I also belive emotionally is a majour factor with age gap relationships maybe he was yearning for something more on a deeper level of intimacy more than just plethora of hook ups that to many can be very emotionally and spirituality depleting. However like many in fact most gay relationships they are open (which I personally find abhorrent but each to their own). Jake is a absolute stunner and he's a new gay so there is going to be alot of offers off men who are going to be 10/10 and he travels all over so the temptation is going to be there.
