If you look at their respective trajectories, it's likely pretty clear that Sam wanted to settle down, get married, have a career, do the thing. Jay on the other hand wanted to do porn, likely party forever and not focus on career and "adulting". Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Some want to party forever, some want to be responsible.
