After what's happened with Randy, its no wonder Joey/Ian wouldn't want anything to do w/Sean Cody anymore. They made a model of Randy's penis, sold/sell it but he never received ANY royalties from it. They likely knew he was struggling, still filmed him a few times in 2018-2019 when he probably wasn't mentally up for it. Shameful. I'm done with them. Doubtful I watch many/any Randy vids now either. I'll just get sad. With the right support, (genuine people near vs exploiters) his death could've been avoided.
Not as simple as you suggest. The dildo thing is, I suspect, a matter of contract. Was he paid for it? Was it part of his "contract” with SC? Did he have to sit for/participate in getting molds made (likely), which can't happen without his agreement. Is the complaint that he didn't get a portion of the sales like a royalty and instead got paid up front?
A broader and more difficult set of issues surround what, if anything, SC should have done to "help” Randy/Jason. We don't know what, if any conversations they may have had when it became obvious that Randy/Jason was an addict. Should they have declined to shoot with him or pay him unless he got help? Is it better to financially support a user or to not? Addicts can be charming, and can prompt pity and empathy. They can also be adept at presenting a false impression of themselves. Most addicts are practiced liars. Even if they intend to get clean, and to do so, often they relapse.
Randy/Jason undoubtedly shared some facts about himself and his struggles. He also most likely shaded and selectively disclosed. In his earlier appeal for financial health, there was no forthright disclosure of his history with drugs, addiction, and troubles with the law. The signs were obvious. When he told us he couldn't keep a job because of his porn past, did he fail to tell us he was fired because he was unreliable, or made customers uncomfortable, both of which are likely factors given his addiction.
I was encouraged by the more recent posts, just before his death, because it suggested he might have been pursuing treatment to manage his addiction. I say "might" because of the post of his (self-claimed friend) that he overdosed and was revived twice before hospitalization and ultimately fatally after hospitalization). But addiction is complicated. Attempts of friends, family and employers to intervene may help or hurt, depending on the addict's ability, willingness, and mental acceptance of a program to put and keep him on a sober path.
The relationship with "SC" is also complex because of the sale to MindGeek.
Randy/Jason was, if what we've read is true, trying to survive and unable to manage his addiction. Could those around him have done more? That is an unanswerable question, and unfair given how powerful addiction can be and how difficult it is to kick/manage.
What is beyond question is that a real person struggled with addiction, led a troubled life, and despite all of that exuded charm and authenticity. He was young, dying at 33. He was a son, brother, friend, boyfriend. He suffered real tragedies, and undoubtedly was racked with guilt, sorrow, depression, etc., related to his addiction. He was personable, and articulate. He mattered. And he is gone too soon.
I wish I could find my way to clarity about him. His death, and the surrounding circumstances, is/are too much for me to process. I'm not a religious person. If there is an afterlife, I hope he finds peace and happiness and is free from the addictions that burdened him in life.
