Jonah Niesenbaum (College Wrestler)

Honestly I think it depends on placement on the card. Bowens is a nice guy and decent in the ring, but is he going to be a main event star? He can be out and it will have no impact on his trajectory.

Some people will say it doesn't matter but perception definitely does and being gay/bi comes with a stigma attached for large parts of the audience. Pretty Deadly are straight guys but you have fans screaming gay slurs at them because of their gimmick.

But to be fair, the whole sport of wrestling is gay in and of itself so I would expect everyone to show some sort of bisexual tendency
The homoeroticism in wrestling is like the elephant in the room or the worst kept secret. Wrestlers are very much like a fraternity though, so I'm sure a lot of things go on that they for obvious reasons just never talk about.

I think it's different being a straight man playing an overtly homosexual character opposed to an actually gay man who happens to be a wrestler. I think of someone like Chris Canyon who was in many ways very ahead of his time. Unfortunately, it didn't matter how good he was because the fact that he was actually gay kept him from go further in his career then he could/should/would have.

Kanyon was good but again I don't think him being gay was ultimately what stopped him from getting to the top. It might not have helped his perception backstage but all kinds of politics were going on in the 90s. He was never going to be world champion level.

The guys we have seen openly come out so far have been lower on the rung so it hasn't made much of an impact on audience perception, similar in a lot of sports. If you had a legit top guy, a world champion, a draw, who was already established and had a list of great matches under them and then came out it would definitely help lay the foundation for more to follow.

There are plenty of guys who are rumoured to be bi or have fooled around with guys in the past (Osprey/Omega/Riddle etc) but they don't really go around stating it or declaring it that often, in part because honestly it shouldn't be a factor, if you're good, you're good, who cares who you fuck?

I mean. Women wrestlers like Sonya Devile, Shayna Baszler, Toni Storm, and etc are all lesbian or bisexual but their sexuality is never a defining trait of their characters or plays a role in how they navigate the business on a political level. They all are female wrestlers who just happen to be gay/bi but with men it's like if you are gay, it's like the scarlet letter and you're automatically written off or oppressed in some way. I mean there were guys like Darren Young and Jake Atlas who were openly gay but they just didn't have the talents, looks, or charisma to really get past the undercard, so it you have someone who does have everything you want a potential top star, but they happen to be gay I'm just curious what would happen because that scenario has yet to play out.

Ospreay is bi

And that’s A-OK, but before this thread gets derailed anymore, if Jonah is bi, let him come out on his own time
I guess I did go off on a tangent there, but going back to Jonah maybe it would be smart if he just focuses on just continuing to learn and improve and hopefully get noticed my management for a push one day in the future, and if/when he's in a position to have leverage he'll be comfortable enough to come out if he chooses to. I mean Duke Hudson is bisexual but the got outed in the worst possible way in a police report, and he's still just languishing in Chase U, so he's not in a position to where it would really be a benefit to him to come out willingly.

Oh, I didn’t know about Duke Hudson that’s unfortunate

Him and Jake Atlas were dating and there was an altercation where Duke had to call the police because Jake was drunk, they had an argument over something, and it got physical. It's interesting because Duke is like twice his size so I'm sure he could've easily handled him if he wanted to, but he's not a citizen here and is on a Visa so he wasn't going to risk putting himself in a situation where Jake could've got him into trouble.

First of all, he looks great blue. I hope in the future he gets his gear in different colors and designs. Secondly, Shell Shocked is a good finisher for him. He has the height, size and strength to pull it off and I lowkey want him to steal it and rebrand it from Cryback who's been acting like a weirdo lately.

Ooo I thought Jake had abused someone else
