Mix that with the relatively young age of their fans and this is what happens.
It’s possible Olivia did this for publicity, as her favorite singer is Taylor Swift, who is the queen of “songs about someone specific.”
“Drivers License” is well-known to be about Josh because he taught her how to drive and they used to be super close. It’s harmless.
“That blonde girl who’s older than me” (Sabrina), “you didn't mean what you wrote in that song about me,” white car (Josh drives a white BMW). It’s not a big deal. Typical teen romance (2 year difference). But good for him for seeking someone older. It led to a great song.

While I agree that people can tend to read into stuff, in this situation it is safe to assume that something happened between them. The most obvious indicator being the fact that the cast of the High School Musical show has begun to act like he doesn’t exist while showering Olivia with support constantly.
There was a controversy a couple weeks ago when one of the cast members pretty much confirmed something happened between them when he liked a Tiktok about Olivia and Josh that said they all sided with Olivia.
I don’t know if they dated, but it was definitely something like it.

part of the reason why so many people believed the allegations against him at the time was because the fact that right before it came out nearly all the cast had unfollowed him and some deleted pics with him, of course it was all mostly rumors there's a lot of proof something happened that pushed him away from the cast (the allegations, his relationship with Olivia, or his relationship with Sabrina).
Two days ago Olivia Rodrigo released her single and music video (#1 on the Apple charts) with lyric changes that took away the ambiguity of whether it's about Josh & Sabrina

Just listened to Olivia's song and it's actually really good. After listening to it and reading some comments around social media, yeah, it's definitely about Joshua lol.
It's a good song. Gotta say though, I prefer her sound over Joshua's.
Also I find it interesting seeing which cast members are actively liking either Josh or Olivia's posts on Insta lol.
Like, most, if not all of the main cast of HSMTMTS have been liking Olivia's posts recently.
But the only cast members regularly liking Joshua's recent posts are Matt Cornett and Joe Serafini.
Really makes you think. Are they keeping their distance because of the accusations or was there some drama?

Josh breaking Liv’s heart probably changed their friend group dynamics. They’re likely just being sensitive to her feelings. Recently Josh was at Sofia’s birthday surprise with balloons, and he did a group Halloween costume with them (Wizard of Oz, as the tornado), and bought them all $75 Christmas onesies. So the cast is still friends, the breakup just created distance like in any friend group.
idk if i’m being honest i don’t think like people need to ruthlessly hate on him like i’ve seen. like i get she kinda made their breakup public with the song, but i mean breakups happen, and like i guess he just moved on earlier than her. idk i just think people are being extremely mean and i know it was crappy of him to do i think it might be a tad much

Maybe the guy who "wrote a song about her, who taught her to drive in a white car, who left her for an older blonde girl"... is a fictional character. But the odds are against it lol.

That's why all the fans are mad. Cause they're under the assumption that Joshua said he'd "Wait for her." to turn 18 and then he didn't. The whole situation is weird tbh.
