Honestly, coming out publicly would probably just raise his profile and get him offered more roles rather than hurt his chances of getting roles.

He is clearly openly in a relationship with a man. It wouldn't make any difference for him to issue a public statement.

There's plenty of actors whose careers stagnated after coming out (eg Colton Haynes and Matt Bomer) and the situation you're hypothesising is very common.

Colton’s career stagnated because he had to take time off for mental health issues, not because he came out. And Matt Bomer is currently on the hit show The Sinner. Do your research first.

I'm not going to continue derailing this Julian Morris thread after this final comment:

Colton Haynes tweeted, "So much of the focus is on your personal life & has nothing to do with the talent you have to bring to the table," when referring to his sexuality.

And Matt Bomer was in ONE episode of The Sinner according to imdb. Hardly the star of the show.

You cannot reasonably be arguing that being openly gay does not impact an acting career when openly gay actors are saying that does.

Do your research first.

Matt Boomer is the star of the new season of The Sinner. IMDB always lists a new series I new season with just one episode, but adds the additional episodes.
