Drake's an attention-seeker and idk why he leaked that in the first place. It's funny how no one remembers that moment from last year because his beef and subsequent loss to Kendrick was the most memorable thing to happen to him last year.
He isn't the first at all. Britney and Janet (two women he's now inextricably linked to) had it worse than whatever he's going through now because the hate led to major professional roadblocks. Even Madonna, as you mentioned. She had The Vatican calling for her arrest and so many other groups coming for her in the '90s because of the controversies she was embroiled in. However, she stayed on course, never wavered and had a career comeback in her 40s with Ray of Light and Confessions. I think female pop stars are more resilient than their male counterparts in certain aspects because they know they are already at a disadvantage because of how sexist the entertainment industry is.
I've said this way too many times, but Justin only used his body as a significant selling point for one album, which was 2002's Justified. Once he became suited up during the FS/LS era, he made that his signature look. He deviated with MOTW, which many say was the last time he was truly sexy on stage because of the more casual wardrobe, tight t-shirts and flexing his biceps.
I say all this to say that being shirtless in a musical setting or showing lots of skin on stage was never his thing, and I am okay with that. You are likelier to see Justin semi-nude on FILM than in his music career. What I was hoping for was a more exciting wardrobe. There's something subtly alluring about wearing a suit and a button-down shirt with a few buttons undone. Look at Andrew Garfield at last night's Golden Globes for reference. That's what I expected, considering how hot and colourful the EITIW album shoot was.
It's not even about being shirtless, but loosening up.
Look at his shirts on tour. He wears another shirt underneath those shirts and tucks them in. Justin is doing everything in his power to prevent even a slight peek at anything. That's insecurity. That's more than just being shirtless lol. Man lacks confidence.
This is what I've been saying. I don't expect him to go shirtless on stage, even though I would love it. Just a loosening up of the wardrobe would suffice. Wear a tank top, rock a button-down shirt and undo a few buttons to show a bit of chest, wear other colors etc.
