Youth today on social media are strange.
It's not just youth, it was coming from people of all ages. Quite a sad reflection of society and our community too (as a fair bit came from inside it).

Kit has always struck me as a quite reserved and private individual. The fact that he has been forced to come out (and yet there's some saying he wasn't forced and was playing up for sympathy, ugh!) shows how far we've yet to go.

The narrative around queer actors playing queer characters was because such actors faced a bigger struggle to get parts in general. This got twisted to come over as "only queer actors can play queer characters". This is what has fuelled this whole "queerbaiting" nonsense, it needs to stop.

I think it's deeper than just alleged fans being absolute idiots. I think this is something from our community itself. People that feel like the are entitled to know everyone's identity, preference. They understand that just because an actor plays a queer character that he has to reveal to everyone who he is, and every single aspect of his life.

One thing is people wondering about it, that happens, it's almost unavoidable. But to attack someone, harass him, his friends, family, just because you think you deserve to know, and worts of all to do it in the name of the "lgtbq community"... it's sick.

I feel terrible for him. I can’t even be happy that he’s come out publicly when the circumstances leading up to it were so shitty.

love the show and I think he’s a very talented actor. hopefully this doesn’t take the wind out of his sails, he’s got a great career ahead of him.

What makes me even more angry is that him coming out literally won't affect their personal lives... they just feel entitled to know it because he played a queer character and people are so obsessed with putting labels on everyone. He stated multiple times that he doesn't put a label on his sexuality... so OBVIOUSLY he's on the fucking spectrum. Straight men will say they are straight so no one will confuse their sexuality. The creator of Heartstopper LITERALLY stated the cast was like an "All Queer Cast" so what did they think?? And the biphobia is so real and alive because why can't bisexuals date the opposite gender without their sexuality being questioned!! Heterosexuals obsessed with gay media will never understand the damage they caused... like harassing the dude in public with his girlfriend for his sexuality.... What the FUCK!!

Also members of the LGBTQIA+ community aren't excluded from this rant. Some of you guys are so hell bent on finding out someone's sexuality like it wasn't difficult for you to accept yourself and eventually get the opportunity to share it with the world ON YOUR OWN TIME!!!! Shame on you all, you became the very thing that would scare someone back in the closet.

So sad to hear how he felt he had to come out to please a bunch of nobodies who feel they have a right to every aspect of his life. You can tell from the tweet how pissed and upset he is by the whole thing. Nobody should be forced to come out, it is often a terribly traumatic experience for people at the best of times. I really hope his family, friends etc are supportive and loving toward him.

People assume you "know" your sexuality - some people really struggle to accept even if they are a star of a show that is about being gay/bi etc.

If I could say something to him I'd wish him well and say how proud I am of how he handled this given how terribly he has been treated. Bless him.

I'm convinced the Heartstopper cast searches their names on Twitter and reads every single tweet because I have barely heard about this man for months.

Also, I feel like this should be a learning opportunity for the creators of the show. The show was heavily marketed as having all LGBT people working in front of and behind the cameras, even explicitly saying that the actors were cast to match the characters sexual orientation. So to then throw this kid out there on a media tour, and have him basically saying that may not be true was awkward and not well thought out.

I kind of find it funny that he came out the same day his openly gay co-star got cast in the MCU. Have a feeling he is only getting offered queer roles, and they're all only hiring people who are out of the closet - lord knows this man tweeted that out and started banging on Marvel's door dressed as Hulkling.

Where to begin with this:

I'm convinced the Heartstopper cast searches their names on Twitter and reads every single tweet because I have barely heard about this man for months.

Your experience is not universal. It's a popular show, the kids are very popular online and are being hired left and right. Connor was just signed to a major American talent agency not long ago, Locke got the Marvel job and Yasmin Finney is doing next year's huge Doctor Who specials.

Have a feeling he is only getting offered queer roles, and they're all only hiring people who are out of the closet - lord knows this man tweeted that out and started banging on Marvel's door dressed as Hulkling.

He literally just filmed a str8 role in a YA romance movie which is a big element of why crazed fans began screaming that he was str8 and accused him of 'queerbaiting'. Please be less tacky.
