Has anyone here been in the situation to decide for yourself...?

I was 13 when I wanted to get it done as I was embarrased once when I was de-pantsed(sp) in front of 2 girls in the 7th grade and was later asked by one of them why it looked "funny".
This is about the time that some schools start mandating showers and it made me self-concious too.
I was probably the most embarrasing 2-3 days of my life after the surgery-everyone looking at it all the time it seemed. I felt better about it, and I don't think it looks any different than anyone else's-
-but it looked weird for a couple of weeks because of the stitches--looked like the head had gotten bitten off and put back on by a shoemaker. Ha!

As an uncircumcised man, I consider myself fortunate as being European and have escaped the unthinking mutilation which is inflicted on so many millions of people in the United States each year.

Circumcision is a massive epidemic, putting at risk every individual American male from birth to death and harming more than half of the males in the United States for no determinable medical reason whatsoever.

You know that circumcision is unnecessary? This is proven by the example of the vast majority of men who have ever lived in the world. Additionally, there are now living in Europe 250 million men happily intact and free from all of the diseases and discomforts alleged by American advocates of circumcision. The alleged medical reasons for circumcision are simply excuses - there are no valid medical reasons.

The foreskin has several useful functions. It serves to protect the males glans from feces and other sources of infection. Over time the foreskin separates from the glans penis, and it does so by a very fascinating process. It is a perfectly natural developmental process. The desquamated cellular material combines with glandular secretions to form smegma, which is the natural penile lubricant and moisturizer. Why is there this large loose fold of skin? The answer is that the foreskin is designed to cover the shaft of an erect, enlarged penis. During erection the penile shaft elongates becoming about 50 percent longer. The foreskin covers this lengthened shaft. It is specifically designed to accommodate an organ that is capable of a marked increase in diameter and length. Another function of the foreskin is that it makes masturbation easier and much more pleasurable. The foreskin makes it easier for the male to enter the female. It slides back during entry. The foreskin has complex nerve endings which give a degree of sexual pleasure not experienced without it. By destroying the important sexual nerve endings of the foreskin, circumcision permanently desensitizes the penis.

But I would like to know why did you do it ? It can't be just cosmetic reasons ?

And there, I think, you have found the true underlying reason that circumcision was invented.

staylow: I've had the best of both worlds, Had foreskin up until 21yrs then had circumcision & found it much more enjoyable & cleaner, masterbating vertually the same.

I find it bizarre that some uncircumsized men find it so disgusting. You'd think it would be the other way around. It's as if they feel they have to defend their own foreskin. While you're right that it's not necessary, it seems way too minor to get worked up over.

i find it weird that adult want to mutilate themselves by doing this. i am not passing judgement on those who have done it. i belive that if it's meant to be there why remove it.

I don't mind uncircumcised men..it's the ones that don't take care of the cleanliness issue...I was once seeing a guy that was uncircumcised..and he had no idea you was suppossed to wash well down there....I don't need to say anymore

I can relate, although I never ended up getting it done in the end. I did consider it though when I was around 15 or 16. Tired of being "elephant dick" and "horsey" in the change room. My brother talked me out of it in the end, but I don't know if it would have mattered one way or the other. I prefer the look of a cut penis, but I've found plenty of use for my foreskin in the meantime. I'm torn on this issue I guess. Where I was born, in Poland, being uncut is the norm, so when I came here as a kid I always felt a bit leftout but from what I hear the trend is changing, so by the time my son, if I have a son, is in school he won't be in the minority. Either way, a dick is a dick. Some are big, some are small, cut, uncut, whatever, its all good.

In the 19th century, they started doing it over in England because of masturbation; eventually they brought it here, also used as a eugenic tool for marking a man as a member of teh upper class.

Actually, the original religous method has changed over the years.
The method that was used in biblical times cut off only the very tip of the foreskin. There is a big debate about why the famous statute of David by Michelangelo looks like he is not circumcised. Michelangelo knew what he was doing. David is circumcised, but by the (original) biblical method. In addition to preserving lots more foreskin, the traditional religious techniques are vastly quicker. They can permit a straighter cut and they do not crush to the extent of the Gomco Clamp. For these reasons some might suggest there is less pain during the religious circumcision then the so-called modern medical circumcision method. The Gomco and the Plastibell method, which performs the amputation similarly, are responsible for an entirely different outcome, a far more significant mutilation

I don't hope that hygienics is your alleged medical reasons for circumcision ?

Smegma is probably the most misunderstood, most unjustifiably maligned substance in nature. Smegma is clean, not dirty, and is beneficial and necessary. It moisturizes the glans and keeps it smooth, soft, and supple. Its antibacterial and antiviral properties keep the penis clean and healthy. All mammals produce smegma. Smegma is needed for the smooth operation of erection particularly during adolescence when sexual thoughts and dreams, nocturnal erections, and masturbation are common. Also Smegma aren't bacteria but it is a substance of considerable chemical complexity, but little is known of its exact composition beyond the fact that it contains neutral fats, fatty acids, sterols; other lipids and cell debris.

Meanwhile, personal hygiene and care of the penis rank high as a protection against chronic disease are meant for all, cut and uncut. Freshly formed smegma, washed away regularly and constantly replenishing itself, is a wholesome lubricant - making for ease in erection and smoothness in sexual intercourse !!

Agreed... I fee the EXACT same way.

medical question for the ppl who have had the the operation in their later years. can you get an erection if you have had the opperation or do the doc's advise not to because of the sitches?

When my son was born last year, everyone said hope you got him circumcised. I put down my foot and say NO...Its does matter. Now its go back with little effort. Leave Nature the way It should be...Like Father Like Son..case in point.

UNCUT :) :D

Wow! Thanx everyone on their views. I have a son now that I did get cut even in spite of my own "weakness?"
I've aways wondered about the women I've been with and whether it would've mattered to them or not..............

I am cut "loose" as they say.
I still have quite a lot of skin, so
I feel i have the best of both worlds in a way.

But, my best college friend was uncircumcised
and for medical reasons, in his twenties,
had to have the foreskin removed.

According to him, and he is truthful with me,
he does not mind being circumcised.

dijstra: I was done at the tender age of 19; it was in response to a sports injury that meant that i couldn't fuck without it being painful - the scar tissue stopped the skin sliding over the head.

I am very very very happy i had it done; it has made life for me easier and I much prefer the look.

Before I had loads of foreskin which hung 1/2 inch below the head when soft...so length wise it worked well...but I'm not a size feind so losing that didn't matter.

It has advantages in my job...no not a porn star but a soldier...hygiene can be a problem in hostile environments and pissing in the artic is less of a challenge.

Both my boys are still uncut - i've left the choice to them - but my twin bro decided to follow me and also became cut.

d

I think you're being considerate and compassionate to let your sons decide for themselves, dijstra. It's a highly important condition for the male and should be his decision only. We had our son cut because it was the 'thing to do' at that period in the USA. Although it makes no difference with my son (very unusual), if I had it to do over, I would make the choice that you have made.

I am 18 years old and uncircumsized. Years ago, I wished I had been circumsized just because everyone else was and I didn't understand why I was different. Even today I sometimes feel awkward because I am in the minority in the showers, etc, and for some reason, a circumsized penis seems "normal" to me being in the US. I suppose I'm glad I wasn't because I've heard that sensitivity is reduced, but for some reason there is that desire to have been circumsized in the back of my head. I suppose a circumsized penis seems like it would be sexier, although I have no idea why I feel this way.

bignfloppy: Try to displace that feeling of not being 'normal' with one of pride in being intact rather than cut. I think this will be a normal change as time goes on and you'll concentrate on the benefits of having your foreskin. It's natural, especially at your age, to want to 'fit in' and be like the others, but that is often not the ideal way to be. I suspect as you encounter more and more who admire the uncut penis and actually get more 'turned on' by them, that pride will become a part of 'bignfloppy'. Many guys love their foreskins.
