DMCA is basically the copyright law for the internet. Courts have always ruled that it is not feasible for sites to monitor and police every post. This law was created to protect both copyright holders and website owners.
Here is how it works
Step 1. If someone's content is posted on a site before they can legally pursue that website owner they must submit a DMCA notice requesting the content be removed.
Step 2. The site receives the DMCA notice and has the choice to remove the content or file a counter DMCA challenging the copyright holder.
Step 3. If the site challenges the matter goes to court. If the site wins the content can stay up. If the site loses the site could owe $150,000 per photo/video posted. So I removed 10 pieces of content yesterday. If I challenged and lost that would mean the judge could fine me up to $1,500,000 for that.
No legally operating site challenges DMCA notices. It simply is not worth the risk. The truth of the matter is DMCA protects LPSG and sites like it. Hating on DMCA is silly because the alternative is nothing posted at all (which may be coming to Europe in the near future).

What's the definition of someone's content. So if I posted photos I shot of Levi, they would be allowed to stay up because I own the photo and the copyright? Or is it someone's image of themselves?
