List of gyms with open/communal showers?

Here's the thing, a catch 22 so to speak; if you report these guys the gyms response is usually to ban nudity altogether eventually. So I man up and tell anyone too aggressive when I am not interested, very nicely the first time, usually that is enough some are embarrassed and don't even come back others are more cautious at least after that. For ones that don't take a strong polite not interested then I have said it in an even more less friendly threatening or at least extremely masculine firm tone, "cut it out around me now, I said it politely but you don't take the hint so if it don't stop we got a problem bro and you don't want that." Again this works in my experience and then and only then on a couple of occasions whenever that was not enough I have threatened to report them if it didn't stop around me and that was always enough, several never returned even.

Last thing I would want is for the gym or establishment to ban nudity altogether which I have found to be the case eventually when people are reported. So I man up and just handle it man to man whatever it takes, that way nudity can continue and no signs go up saying must wear bathing suits in the locker room or showers or lockers and/or showers under construction and then tiny nasty curtain stalls replace big open shower rooms. I also don't care what any consenting adults do when not around me, I am not at the gym to seek out and narc/report on my fellow man. Sometimes it doesn't bother me at all and if it does I've already described here how I handle it. Keep shower rooms open and locker and changing rooms open, don't report unless you want to eventually find your gym under new construction and nudity banned and/or the remaining open shower rooms gone IMHO.

Now please I think it's time we go back to sharing more positive experiences in this thread. Ready to take our jocks, swim suits or underwears off and hit the showers:

In southern California all of the 24HourFitness locations that were previously CalFit gyms still have them, while the locations built by 24hr do not...a lot of people around here call them "prison showers" or "gang showers" which makes them sound even more appealing. They tend to be the ones located in strip malls rather than the larger free standing ones

Update: I reported this guy to my University and apparently another guy my age reported the same kind of behavior. The supervisor at the Rec will be looking for him tonight and hopefully he won't be allowed back.

I'm gay myself and even today showered next to a really fit guy and had a small conversation with him while showering naked together. It's the guys that follow around the fit young guys that make us want to shower at home or in the private stalls. I don't think it's a generational thing, I think it's creepy old dudes that stare at you while you shower that makes us not feel comfortable being naked men together. If you really wanna see naked guys, go watch porn like the rest of us, but stop staring at us while we shower/change, it's disrespectful.

Congratulations another University that will eventually ban nudity for all so no more small conversationss with a really fit guy showering next to you either.

I'm young fit and can handle shit myself I don't need to run tattle tale like a little baby and ruin it for all young fit guys too. I wish more of my peers in this generation would man the fuck uo and learn to handle stuff on their own without acting like they need to call Nannys to take care of them, IMHO.

I think that Todd was saying to do this as a threat to get the creeper to back off because he said "if". Creepers don't want to lose access to the locker room over 1 guy, so unless the guy isn't all there, he will back down over the threat of being reported. I agree that you yourself need to make it clear to the creeper that what he's doing is unwanted with words or body language. I think most guys would be afraid of getting an ass kicking if they didn't back off. I haven't ever had to use words to get them to back off. Those who know me say that my "fuck off" look says it all when I don't like someone. It's pretty unmistakable. If that ever didn't work, I would have no problem getting verbal, and if needs be, physical. I'm a 2nd Dan black belt in Taekwondo. That would be an absolute last resort though. I only fight if someone else hits first.

In my 30 years of using gyms, I have only had to report a guy once for harassment in the locker room about 14 years ago. He openly admitted he was bipolar to guys, so nothing got him to back off. I didn't want to hit him either because he had a mental illness, but I was sick of his shit. He would make a beeline for me every time I entered the locker room, and get in my face over the stupidest shit that I had nothing to do with. He had apparently been harassing other members on the gym floor (males and females) so they told him not to come back. Sometimes management has to get involved if the person has issues like this guy had. I felt bad for him that he was bipolar, but enough was enough.

I agree. Checking out subtly is cool, but staring is just rude. I used to have an obese 350-400 pound old guy stare at me every time I entered the locker room. One time he saw me enter the locker room, he stopped what he was doing, stared at me, and his jaw literally dropped. I wasn't even naked at the time! That creeped me the fuck out! Ever since then, I puposely pick a locker out of his line of sight when he's there. This was the same guy that moved his stuff across the locker room to sit in front of my locker while I was getting changed that I mentioned earlier. I'm partly gay as well, but there is not a snowball's chance in hell with this guy! Jerk off to porn at home. The locker room is not the place to act out fantasies. I have seen and been naked with lots of guys in the locker room, steam room, hot tub and open shower that I'm totally hot for, but I have enough control over myself to know what is cool and what isn't. I jerk off to the memory of them when I later get home. Most of these guys I struck up conversations with, and am in touch with on social media. They would probably be stunned to know that I am hot for them.

Real swimmers (pro, semi-pro, or aspiring) must shave off all body hair and that is often best done in an open shower room with help from teammates, buds, or anyone with a razor willing to lend a hand:

This picture reminds me of a time I was using an open shower at a small family owned gym in the city where I was working at the time. I entered the open shower to see the most stunningly good looking guy I had ever seen in my life shaving his entire body. He was ripped, and had a gorgeous face with brown wavy hair and piercing blue eyes. I took the shower across from him, and enjoyed the show immensely. He wasn't in the slightest bit modest. I struck up a conversation with him, and he was a really cool guy. It also gave me a reason to hang around and not come off like a creeper. That must have been 14 years ago, and I still remember it like it was yesterday. That particular gym attracted a lot of hot young guys that were really friendly and had no qualms about being naked in the steam room and open shower. I can still distinctly remember 4 of them. When I stopped working in that city, it was no longer possible for me to continue working out there. They closed about 12 years ago when one of the owners died. His wife didn't want to continue with the business, so she sold off one location and closed the other two.

The gym I currently use has shower cubicles but they are in a massive wet area so still plenty of naked guys walking around...this pic reminds me of seeing two guys shaving naked at the sink the other day. Wish more guys this age would relax in the locker room and show their mates that it's ok.

Anyone go to marshall st or queen mother centres?
I belive those gyms have open showers (according to Squirt's reviews). A mate of mine uses the Better Gym in Poplar for the pool and he confirmed it's open showers in the men's changing area. A few cubicles too but he doesn't bother with those.
and your friend saw naked guys in shower?
Yes he did...quite an eyeful!

In London (UK), so many gyms these days have shower cubicles, a few local places had makeovers recently and went from open showers to cubicles, or worse, 'changing villages' (mixed sex, you shower and change in cubicles. You can be wrapped in a towel but can't be nude at all).

I do have one positive story about open showers though - a number of years ago, I used to work out with a good mate. When we first signed up to the gym, we'd barely been shirtless together, let alone naked. He expressed relief that the gym had shower cubicles while I said, I really didn't care one way or the other. I thought open showers were less hassle.

One weekend, our usual location was closed, but we were able to use another one nearby. Never having been, we did our workout together, he did the usual 'towel on, then underpants off', and we followed the sign to the showers. They were OPEN showers! He looked mortified. I just smiled and said what are you waiting for - it's about time we showered naked together don't you think?

He finally joined me - was early morning on a Sunday, so for awhile we weer the only ones there and he soon relaxed into it. After that, we went there often and he admitted we found that gym as it helped him get over his shyness and body image. Now we don't just hang out naked at home (though I would with him) but he's totally at ease with himself now and those open showers were the reason why he got to that point.

I think they are a good thing for all sorts of reasons, but most of all helping to become at ease with yourself around others.
