Hollywood will still cast straight actors in queer roles. Barry Keoghan, Jacob Elordi, Paul Mescal and Josh O'Connor will still get calls first because they have good agents
Have you been living under a rock? We are in 2023 -- queerbaiting attracts double the media attention + double the fanbase for gen Z these days....

Harry Styles, Kit Connor, Charlie Puth, Timothee Chalamet, Bad Bunny, Conan Gray, Evan Mock, Tyler Posey, Omar Apollo, JAMES FRANCO, literally every hot actor on White Lotus or Euphoria... The list goes on and on.

It's quite amazing that you can mistake internet buzz for industry opportunities.

I’m sorry but all of this seems so disingenuous. The light speed coupling, the matching fur coats and leather pants, the Kim k officiant. There’s something about this whole thing that seems off. I mean if it is all legit, then good for them, glad they found each other. But I can’t help but get the “this is all a show to promote some shitty cheap product I’m about to launch soon” vibes.

...and WHY NOT FFS...????

I´m as gay as it gets and I don´t understand this....
has ANYONE ever thought about the fact that if you insist that all gay roles can only be played by gay actors that they also could not play any straight roles anymore...

I mean if they need to be fair to not let str8 people get gay roles from the gays... it would only be fair to NOT LET gay people take any str8 roles away from the gays... right...?

I GOES BOTH WAYS

and FYI.. it´s called ACTING... you do not have to be a murderer to play Ted Bundy, you do not have to have mental problems to play a mental patient or be able to walk on water to play Jesus...

I do NOT get this discussion at all...
well... for some.. like trans visibility.. it is OF COURSE very helpful to have trans people playing trans roles..
and NATURALLY while people shouldn´t do blackface and all of that... goes without saying... but don´t get the exclusivity thing some are asking for cause if you´d think that thru and really go for it ... you always have to find the EXACT/identical person to play the role which is pretty silly...

I haven't made any moral judgement on who should play who. I just stated a fact. I haven't said anyone should or shouldn't play anyone

My point was that there is privilege in being a Cis Heteronormative White Guy. They'll always be at an advantage career wise. That's the same in Hollywood where they'll always be first choices no matter the role

That being said it's also not wrong for LGBT+ people to want themselves represented by fellow LGBT+ people on screen.

didn´t mean to criticise you personally in any kind of way.... and it wasn´t as much a reply or dig at you than a general statement about the fact that many just demand that only gay actors can play gay but don´t think about the fact that --if that would be the case from now on- they shouldn´t be able to play str8 anymore...

also I don´t mind queerbaiting by str8 allies (although most mentioned earlier are some sort of LGBTQ anyway)
but even fully 1000% str8 people... WTF not..? unless these EXCLUSIVELY do it for the money only to act very different privately I don´t see a problem with it...

yeah plus you can never be sure of what a person's sexuality is or what they personally identify as. Agents/Managers and Casting Directors are also not allowed to ask for an actor's sexuality, especially in terms of hiring them for a role. That would be discrimination

I don't any sort of majority has ever said this or agreed with this. Ya'll mistake extremists and twitter for real life or like those people represent millions of people. Just silly tbh. This whole "debate" is inane and classic manufactured outrage to create division (and give low grade online publications something to write about)

People don't "queerbait". That word has been totally ruined at this point. I think what people are actually describing is just good old fashioned opportunism and clout chasing (just by way of queer aesthetics). And while I can agree that I don't "care" if someone behaves this way to advance their career. It isn't exactly a positive trait nor one that should be rewarded either.

Some of us really have too much time on our hands.
Absolutely and this def applies to me too lol

It's so trashy in every way

It comes down to this: while there's been great advancement for gay actors, it's still harder to be a gay actor or for a gay actor to be cast as a romantic lead/heartthrob role. So that cuts a lot of possibilities for them. So if they can't get the heartthrob roles and the gay roles are being taken by straight guys who want awards for being "so brave", where's the work for gay actors?

I don't think it's the BIGGEST PROBLEM EVER, but yeah.

They have both commented in televised interviews about their relationship... it's not been secondhand...
You are correct. I only saw the Instagram and the articles in this thread. I did not see the YouTube or television stuff. So much has happened in such little time.

“Romantic
I think k its hilarious y'all think a make up artist has the clout to take him from c to a list.

Gay men are miserable

First of all he’s a hair stylist hunny… if you’re gonna tell everyone they’re wrong at least get your facts straight first.

Second of all, no one is saying Luke married Tom Cruise. But Chris Appleton isn’t some rando — he’s Kim Kardashian‘s right hand man. You seriously think going from a struggling bit actor recording zoom auditions out of a tiny apartment to riding in a billionaire jet with the most famous woman on the planet ISN’T a huge jump in clout with probable motives attached? OK gurl…
