My problem with it is the uneven chances gay actors and straight actors have. Most of those recent gay-themed box office hits had barely any gays in them, most in supporting roles (Call Me by Your Name, Love, Simon franchise, God's Own Country, The Power of the Dog etc.). This trend only turned with Heartstopper and Fellow Travelers. Compare the careers of Matt Bomer and Jake Gyllenhaal or any other straight actors who got their big break playing a gay role. Then you have multiple recent instances of queerbaiting by Elordi and some others (Garfield and Criss with their "culturally queer"). Being really gay often limits your carrer opportunities and marketability. Playing gay roles is not a carrer suicide for straight actors anymore. It's a chance of a big break, they could play gay without any damage to their prospects, while at the same time showing what allies they are and getting queer audiences for their projects. All of this while being in a privilaged position compared to their queer friends from the industry. Allies shouldn't obscure or replace queer people.
