i think the reason why their fans feel sad was because mark and ethan only showed the good side of the relationship. a pretty common thing for these youtube couples. they don't show any of the negative sides of the relationship. so the fans spend the whole time thinking everything is fine, that they're the perfect couple, super in love, soulmates, etc. so when they hear the break up it comes as quite the shock, because it's like you spend the whole time admiring a masterpiece only to find out it was a forgery.
we don't know that much of what goes behind the scenes with these youtube couples. the arguing, the cheating, the open relationships, the swinging, the threesomes. all that stuff might be suspected, because we see some things here and there that might point to it, but until there's evidence, we just assume it's all fine. look at will and rj. they had nasty drunken fights that resulted in rj getting arrested, they were exposed for sleeping with other guys, whether it was cheating or an open relationship was unknown.

i won't be surprised if before 2019, assuming they carry on with their youtube careers and remain active on instagram, we start seeing a random guy with one or both of them that is usually hidden away, only to later be revealed to be a new boyfriend

They've not been good for a while. They stopped showing up as frequently, there was way less physical connection on camera, and there were suddenly a million different people in their videos. This has been a long time coming. Just because they're good at hiding doesn't mean this came out of nowhere.

I see Mark continuing with youtube, but Ethan hasn't made a video in 4 months and the filming thing did seem to be more of Mark's interest and wheelhouse. I have no idea what Ethan does out there all day in LA. Do merch and protein bars really pay that well that they can live off their low-views adsense money?

If they really wanted to be apart Ethan would not have got a place which is basically on Marks doorstep as they said in the video it only 5 minutes away from Marks, If they really wanted to be apart they would have moved further away from each other. Or Ethan just wanted to stay in WeHo or wherever their apartment is. He's pretty selfish, he's not going to completely give up his stomping grounds if he doesn't have to. It's probably where all the action is and what drew them to that location in the first place.

In one of the videos with him there was a comment about being lazy during sex or something like that. Mark or Ethan said something along the lines of just laying there and not doing much work and the clothing store guy (seriously can't remember his name) made a crack about both of them doing that (implying that they'd all had sex).

Yeah throughout the entire video Mark looked so heartbroken and sad all the while Ethan was the one so nonchalant carrying the conversation like they were discussing their favorite restaurant chain closing. From that alone I'm assuming that Ethan ended it.

I always thought Mark was the hotter one but that Ethan acted like he himself was the real catch. So maybe I'm naive but I can't imagine anything like Mark cheated and that his tears are shame or guilt. Ethan on the other hand? I feel like he's more than been ready to dip in to LA dating pool.

That's what I gathered too. Mark seems very heartbroken about the whole thing, while Ethan does seem pretty fine. But then again, it could be very well Ethan is non-emotive person. I initially followed Mark when he first started. But then fizzle off.

I do agree that from the looks department, Mark is definitely the hotter one.

But for real, I saw this coming a mile away. Literally none of the dating gay couples that are popular on YouTube last. Mark seems like the "I'm ready to settle down in a nice apartment and live a quiet life while pursuing videography" while Ethan seems like the "I want to travel the world and party!" type. Long-term, they were never really compatible IMO, maybe if they had gotten together in their 30's, but I feel like Ethan wants to spend his 20's living life while Mark is just content doing his own thing. I won't be surprised if Mark falls off the grid and only posts videos posted to Vimeo or something, while Ethan's nudes suddenly show up in a few years.
