It’s because NYC has the most gays. They say it’s not sexually transmitted, that it’s mostly spread via contact, which makes me think that it’s more prevalent in the gay community because of the hook up culture and because gay men are much more likely to be in open relationships. I know slut-shaming is frowned upon in our community, but let’s face it, a lot of gay men are sluts lol Also, I’ve read that STIs in general are on the rise among gay men because so many have stopped wearing condoms since PreP/Truvada became available. The United States has the most reported cases so far.
Monkeypox in the U.S.
New York, sad to say is leading in numbers, so be careful NY members
I can see your point of view. From a medical perspective it is risky to have multiple sexual partners and also it put other people slightly at risk, especially when transmission is not only via sexual intercourse like monkeypox. We can talk about other scenarios where society is put at risk by behaviours which are not solely related to the gay community (if at all) but maybe this would be whataboutism? Hopefully vaccine roll out will be quick and uptake high so this outbreak can be stopped. If I’m being honest, I wish gay men would stop having so many sex partners. It makes them vectors for disease and puts the entire community in danger. There’s nothing immoral about being a slut, but it spreads disease much more than monogamy. you only need the monkeypox vaccine, if you havent had a smallpox one.I've got my Smallpox vaccine and I live extremely remote where I rarely interact with humans. I don't see a need to get a Monkeypox specific vaccination right now.
That’s a wish that is highly unlikely to happen! I personally think that having many sexual partners is fine, it’s a personal choice. I think many people would choose to have more sexual partners if they weren’t constrained by social conformity and or religious indoctrination. If I’m being honest, I wish gay men would stop having so many sex partners. It’s a fact that people who have many sex partners are at a much greater risk of disease than people who are monogamous. That’s just science and basic math. The WHO and CDC are currently recommending men who have sex with men, particularly those with multiple partners, as well as sex workers to get the monkeypox vaccine. This is because almost all of the transmission is occurring among these populations. 97% of reported cases have been among men who have sex with men. It’s not a coincidence that open relationships are much more prevalent among gay men. That’s a wish that is highly unlikely to happen! I have many sexual partners because I do sex work. A lot of my clients are looking for an outlet for their sexual energy because they can’t satisfy that desire either in a monogamous relationship or because they’re not in a relationship and they don’t like the dating scene. I think it’s natural for people to want variety in sexual partners which is difficult for them in our society. This is not just restricted to gay men, I think it applies universally.
