Nathan chen

Sorry, I am sick and tired of all of these pseudo-social justice mavens living a life being offended by everyone and everything. Grow up, get a life, and try to love yourself more. And for this view, I don't apologize. And that goes for the far right also.

TBH, I was thinking he's cute and a figure skater so the odds were... so I could see how he might be frustrated with that.

And I didn't know Rocket Man had any special significance either. I'm a bad gay I guess. Hopefully he does better on issues though.

Option A: I’m SO OFFENDED that people would point out a shitty thing that someone else said that I just HAVE to let people know that they’re being sensitive and need to GROW UP!

Option B: Hit ignore on something/someone you don’t want to see here and move on with your day.

you went for option A, I will currently be going for option B.

Please, please choose Option B! Have a good day.

Nathan was asked to respond to a question of what's
it like to be in a world where everyone asks you if you
are gay, or assumes you are gay, accuses you of being
gay, or slights your accomplishments as if you are in a
second-class (aka "gay") sport. My goodness, he took
ballet, too! He must have been on guard about this
all the time. His answer made perfect sense to me.

I have been gay my whole life, and had no idea that
"Rocket Man" had some gay connection. And if Elton
can perform with Eminem, I think Nathan can skate to
"Rocket Man." Good god, he does FIVE quads in that
routine! What song could be more appropriate?

Anyone who thinks Nathan is a homophobe or some
kind of hypocrite jests at scars that never felt a wound.

We should all be as comfortable in our skin as Nathan is in his.

I just wish he would show more of that skin!

Basically gave an extremely ignorant interview response trying to have this narrative that figure skating is LGBTQIA+ dominated and from there it came off as a like “woe is me, I’m a straight figure skater” as if the institution hasn’t been wildly homophobic for years and skaters like Weir didn’t face intense scrutiny only like a decade ago.

he’s also shown how incredibly tone deaf he is by doing a routine to Rocket Man.

I attached some excerpts from an article as well as some tweets that better touch on the matters better than I could right now View attachment 62693991View attachment 62694001View attachment 62694011

Get over y'allselves. It's not true skating is a homosexual-dominated sport, but as a straight skater who gets asked all the time if he is gay, and is currently being Asianfetished in a gay chat room, he has every right to feel he needs to carve out a lane. He's young, was younger then, and isn't a social justice warrior. He's not going to be well versed in not offending the always offended.

“He's not going to be well versed in not offending the always offended”

um, well, I would at least expect him to be well versed in the sport he’s making a career and living off of right now lol, and he’s clearly not if he truly thinks it’s a homosexual dominated sport lol. Like I just have to wonder where/how he even got that assumption?

The IQ in this thread just dropped by a good 30 points. Time to unwatch.
Don't. It was just a few and I seriously doubt their IQs were all that elevated to begin with. I mean a gas lighter with a single post comes to the site 30 minutes after Nathan wins Olympic gold and spotlights a bullshit that took place almost a year ago.

Nathan Chen is not a homophobe, but rather attempted to discuss in a nuanced manner the homophobia that exist in the professional sporting community and the bias against skating, for sportscasters see the sport as a disruption to what they deem as "real sports" and demean figure skating as if watching is going to make them suck cock, especially as ice skating popularity has risen and now has the ability to knock other sports out of television timeslots.

Chen's words were misconstrued by people who know nothing about the sport, nor where they interested in understanding the truth and converged on a horrible example of straight shaming, further disgraced by having to apologize when he was the victim.

It's just fucking stupid when I see the extremes of both sides. We got one side calling him homophobic. Then there are these low effort fucking buzz phrases like social justice warrior and "offending the always offended" on the other. Please. It's like being on twitter.

What he said was both misplaced(in a way that he could've used better words but his point isn't all wrong) and misconstrued. Both can be true. Ignorance is far too often declared as bigotry.

Almost sounds like a certain few states around these parts.

I’d just like to point out that I never called Nathan homophobic lol, I said he gave an ignorant response and was tone deaf with a song selection and that I would no longer be a fan of his . Do I think he’s actively homophobic and would discriminate? No. Do I think he has a narrow view of masculinity? Probably.

yet people wanted to bring hostility to me for simply sharing information another person asked about and it descended into “omg so sensitive!” Lol

Yeah well striking a match isn't an innocent act when you're standing beside a container marked flammable and since this is a thread devoted to Chen's fans, your sense of victimization doesn't exactly have a clear title.

Furthermore and the masculinity comment aside, people have been speculating the meaning to the lyrics of Rocket Man since its release fifty years ago, and Elton John himself took to twitter today to congratulated Nathan on his win, so why you would authorize yourself to label Nathan's use of the song as "tone deaf" is a mystery that doesn't need to be solved.

maybe you should take a break from the internet then if one person posting excerpts from an article and some tweets (none of which I was even the author of lol) is the equivalent of someone lighting up and causing an inferno, you sound as fragile as him right now, like the ignore button is right there if you can’t handle it

Also the thread is for/about Chen, not his fans, if people want to post about something Chen said they have every right to do so

Evan Lysacek was the last American male figure skater to take home Olympic gold and he became quite open to showing his body in pictorials after Vancouver.

The Ultimate Espn The Magazine Body Issue Thread! (2009 - ???)

I think Nathan and Vera Wang, (who also designed for Lysacek), have done a great job of moving the needle as to what is acceptable with his competition costumes, so I wouldn't be surprised if we begin to see more of Chen, for he's now hotter than ever and every magazine is going to want him.
