He would be perfect for a Guadagnino film. I know he's said he does not want to take gay roles away from gay actors, yet I am sure he would make an exception to work with an acclaimed filmmaker.

Contrary to popular belief most of Guadagnino's films are not "gay" in nature and most of his characters are straight or have no clear sexual identity. So it's very possible he ends up in one of his films without having to play gay.

I'd say the chance is higher than playing gay in fact. of the 7 known projects Luca is working on next year, only 2 of them deal with overt lgbt themes/characters.
