This is ridiculous. Nobody should do anything they don’t want to do. Pushing people to come out is no different than pushing people to stay in - it’s psychologically damaging and selfish for people to expect others to live their lives a certain way because it benefits them. It’s just another extreme and another example of people not minding their own business.
1. Humans do things they don’t want to do all the time.
2. Nico has chosen to be a public figure. There are ethical costs to be weighed in exchange for the wealth, power, fame and privilege that comes with that profession even at his level.
3. Nico has proudly embraced his Colombian heritage where he could have chose to hide that part of his life since he traditionally passes as Caucasian.
4. Nico has gotten work playing queer characters. It’s much more selfish to queerbait audiences based on the fallacy that they won’t also get cast in “straight” roles/get paid for more work.
5. It’s much more psychologically damaging to not live authentically.
6. Representation truly does matter to limit disenfranchised members of society “being othered”. As @Caesarimp stated, if one is safe to represent, they should.

“When it is safe to do so, people should do it.” Everyone can judge for themselves what that would mean, and for some people that might unfortunately mean never. That’s fine. But to treat coming out like some kind of inconsequential relic is a mistake that will only hurt all of us in the long run.
