I’ve also lived in Brisbane all my life - the Gold Coast is called LNP Fort Knox because despite its urban nature, every single one of its eats has always been held by the LNP (bar one, Gaven).

You’re correct, Southport was established in the 1870’s… but the Gold Coast we know today is well and truly designed to emulate Florida. There are literally suburbs called Miami, Florida Gardens etc, not to mention the investment in huge theme parks (For Aus Standards). That wasn’t a coincidence - the state and private industry planned the design and development to emulate Florida from the 1970’s onwards.

It’s also listed in the hundreds of Gold Coast City Council City Plans over the decades, where they directly reference the “Floridian Strategy”.

Apologies, I meant seats, not eats. Just a typo. A seat is like a congressional district - as each seat in parliament is designated as an area for representation. They’re not called like Queensland’s 1st Congressional District either - usually they’re named after people or the central suburb. Every seat (every district) in the Gold Coast is held by the LNP (Republicans) except for one, which is the Seat of Gaven. “Bar one” means “except for” or “other than”.

No issue though - linguistic differences are what makes the anglosphere interesting!

And he already grew up poor, cant finish a traditional high school program. Still he talked about wanting nice things and stuff but had no plans at all.
