Omar Rudberg

Mostly, I am very confused as to what Omar feels he has to lose by being openly party of the queer or LGBTQ community. I think absoloutly everyone thinks he is & it’s not done him any harm so far! That said, if he wants to keep it private, that’s his choice but I don’t know how these ‘closeted’ to the public celebs do it. Not holding your loved ones hand or kissing them when out & about - I mean, I’m cautious about it just because homophobia is always present but I just couldn’t be dealing with hiding myself or hiding myself for someone else. No thanks, I left that with my 18 year old self!
I think it's less about the homophobia and just the sheer amount of public attention that he's bothered with

Regarding the interview I also believe he is just not fully aware of what the term queer means. And the interview is also old. It states that he was still filming his movie at the time, so it’s from November or early December. He/his bf got so much hate back then, and especially twitter was very toxic. It is very clear that he hates social media in that interview so I think he was just very fed up and frustrated at the time and wanted people to bud out of his dating life.

I once read an excerpt from an interview with him, the oldest ones, in which he said that at the time he wore his hair long, he received several comments like: "Who is this pretty brunette girl" Has anyone seen this interview? I swear I read it on Instagram once

For me I have a lot of sympathy for straight actors who think they should be able to play any part and even more for cis LGBQ+ actors who want to be able to play gay without coming out in public. (I think the converstion about trans actors playing trans characters is more black and white.) I dont think forcing anyone to come out or only casting gay or bi actors for gay or bi characters is right, or really doble.

But man it's a bummer how few open, proud role models our kids have to look up to. How can they learn to become open and proud themselves? And that is before we talk about the employment discrimination aspect of it all.

This isn't something that Omar Rudberg or Kit Connor or Michael Ciminio or Manu Rios or whomever can or should need to fix as individuals but the way it tracks all across all of these shows makes me sad.

I believe that's the QX interview from 2019. He talked about looking androgynous and how often he'd get mistaken for a girl when taking photos with his female friends.

Although I get the point of queer actors not want to come out due to career and all but it's actually quite sad.... Like, in 2023 their coming out isn't just their jour, it's the journey of hundreds of fans who'll feel comfortable coming out vec of them.... So yeah, I'm not criticising popular celebrities not wanting to come out, I'm just criticising their selfish reasons for not coming out... Especially when most if ur fandom is queer, you should do better....

Yes, that was the exact part I read, he cited the androgynous look and more feminine appearance that confused people

The implication is that backlash was expected, which is ridiculous. The only people overreacting here is you and others being overly sensitive bout a non-issue. Anyway not wasting any more time on this silly pointless topic. People just look for outrage these days. whatever. Back to thirsting
Oh so you read minds now? That was not the implication. That’s what YOU read into it. Jesus, save us from stans.

Not public attention. It's NEGATIVE attention that he's bothered with. Listen, it's human nature. I'm not saying this is Omar and his BF alone. But they don't turn away from positive attention. Both of them seem to crave attention. And, unfortunately, when you step into the limelight, you're going to be scrutinized. Is it wrong? Yes. But it's reality.

Also, young consumers are moving towards wanting to know if who they spend their money on has the same ethics as they do. And socmed is shaping what values they have. The reality is that a large portion fans are going to move on after YR is over. Yeah, they'll say they won't. But they will. They'll get obsessed with a new show and new music with a musician who doesn't just keep releasing different versions of the same song. Yes he can model. But he's made it clear that music his where his drive is. Omar is going to need to bring in new music fans - global fans. Take these two things together and, imo, the easiest way for him to make that ethical connection and grow his fanbase is to make a serious connection with the queer community.
