Not every conservative is a Bible thumping christian, and not every Christian that says they're against homosexuality hates homosexuals. They're mostly just deluded and think they are loving their neighbour by telling you that your sin is taking you to hell. Their intentions count more than someone who claims to be offended by what they say. It's usually better to grow some thicker skin.
Sure there is homophobia too, but most so called homophobia you hear about nowadays is exaggerated and doesn't go so deep. The last time I encountered what I would consider true homophobia was 14 years ago. Unless you're living in Uganda or alike, we don't have much to complain about in the western world anymore, and it is not a wise move to poke conservatives in the eye with a stick like the movement has been doing more and more in recent years.
