First photo ever. Taken by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce Around 1827. Fist pic is the metal plate the image was shot onto and the second is the manually enhanced picture. It would have taken more than 8 hours to take this picture.

First photo, ever taken, of a person. This daguerreotype was taken in 1838. On the bottom left, on the sidewalk, there is a man getting his boots shined. It would have taken about 10 minutes to take this picture. Other people had undoubtedly walked by, but the man was motionless so he showed up. The man polishing the boots appears as a blur because he was moving the entire time.
