Erm, you can appreciate/compliment some people without it doing anything resembling shitting on other people. If it's the thread I think you're talking about @FSUnole2k9 I don't at all see it as exclusionary. There are plenty of threads where people get tagged or mentioned that my username doesn't pop up and it doesn't bother me at all. Not everyone on here knows me, and that's okay. Not everyone here likes me, and that's also okay. Of course you're allowed to feel differently, mind you

You can appreciate something, without it meaning everyone/everything who didn't get a compliment is bad or not worth while. It's like someone saying "Hey, I love pizza" and then someone else trying to twist it to the original individual really meaning "Everything that isn't pizza is terrible" when that isn't at all what was said.

Mediterranean Diet Might Help Lift Depression
Limiting the amount of processed food you eat -- and, instead, choosing lots of fresh fruits, vegetables and whole grains -- could do your spirit good, as well as your heart, according to a study published this week.

Researchers who randomly assigned young people to spend just three weeks following different food regimens found that those who ate in the Mediterranean pattern experienced fewer symptoms of depression and anxiety.

The study adds to a “highly consistent and extensive evidence base from around the globe linking healthier diets to reduced depression risk," says Felice Jacka, a professor of nutritional and epidemiological psychiatry at Deakin University's Food & Mood Centre in Australia.

Don’t Yank Opioids From Pain Patients, Feds Advise
We live in skittish times, when it comes to opioids, with many doctors and patients fearing addiction at least as much as they fear pain.

But in their rush to switch patients to other forms of relief, many physicians are moving too fast in cutting the dose of opioids, notes the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. And that can harm people, too.

This week the HHS issued new guidelines for helping chronic pain patients that call for slow, compassionate tapering of drugs like Vicodin and oxycodone -- if and when cessation is deemed necessary -- rather than discontinuing the drugs abruptly.

Personalizing the treatment, and slowly tapering the dose over several months, helps patients avoid increased pain and withdrawal symptoms, which can be severe and even lead to thoughts of suicide or desperate attempts to get pain relief illegally.

READ ON to learn why some doctors say medicine used to treat addiction can also help some pain patients more comfortably wean themselves from opioids.

How Vaping Nicotine Changes Your Teen’s Brain
Facing a steep rise in teen vaping, scientists have been scrambling to estimate the long-term effects of nicotine vapor on a developing brain. Some of the best hints so far come from studies of young mice, and the early evidence is scary for parents.

"A very brief, low-dose exposure to nicotine in early adolescence increases the rewarding properties of other drugs, including alcohol, cocaine, methamphetamine — and these are long-term changes," says pharmaceutical sciences professor Frances Leslie, from the University of California, Irvine.

Its an off thing to think about but as you get older or if you are older your ability to meet up with someone or to hook up with someone lowers so if you have the opportunity now why pass on it? Is it that people just like living their lives alone? Do they want to be alone? Do people really want to live this planet without someone there? Why do people choose to pass on any opportunity to have a physical interaction with someone?
*this all being said in a normal situation where both people have been....for lack of a better word...vetted*
I've heard people who are older...50s/60s that dont want a partner. I wonder why that is. Most people want someone there...in any form/fashion/instance we may not openly say it or feel that way but I feel like people want someone there.
Humans aren't conditioned to live a solitary life. So I'm not sure what their thinking is. I know people are independent and want to do their own thing...and I get that...but don't you want someone who enjoys that thing just as much as you do to be there to enjoy it with you?
Don't you want someone there to celebrate your birthdays, all the happy moments, and to make you laugh? Dont you want someone there to hold you when everything and everyone sucks? Or to bring you chocolate? You can be you...and independent...and still have the want and need of someone to be there.

Just a thought I had today.
Curious.

How to Make Aloe Vera Gel

The aloe vera plant is a succulent that stores water in its leaves in the form of a gel.

This gel is highly moisturizing and great for sunburns, bug bites, minor cuts or wounds, and other skin problems.

However, many store-bought aloe vera products contain potentially harmful additives like dyes.

This article explains how to easily make aloe vera gel yourself using fresh aloe vera leaves.

Here’s What You Need

How to Make Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel is easy to make using either the leaves of an aloe plant you have at home, or ones you've purchased at a grocery store or farmer's market.

To make aloe vera gel, you need:

  • an aloe vera leaf
  • a knife or vegetable peeler
  • a small spoon
  • a blender
  • an airtight container for storage
  • powdered vitamin C and/or vitamin E (optional)
It's best to only use one or two leaves at a time, as the gel only lasts about 1 week without additional preservatives.

If you plan to keep it longer, you need to freeze it or add a preservative in the form of powdered vitamin C or E.

Summary

To make aloe vera gel, you need some common kitchen items, an aloe vera leaf, and — optionally — powdered vitamin C and/or vitamin E.

Directions

Once you have gathered all of the materials you need, it only takes about 30 minutes to make your aloe vera gel.

1. Prepare the Aloe Leaves

To use a fresh aloe leaf from a plant, first cut off one of the outer leaves from the base of the plant.

You can also use a store-bought leaf.

Wash it well, removing any dirt, and then stand it upright in a cup or bowl for 10–15 minutes. This allows the yellow-tinted resin to drain out of the leaf.

The resin contains latex, which can irritate your skin, so completing this step is important (1Trusted Source).

After the resin has drained completely, wash off any remains on the leaf and peel off the thick skin using a small knife or vegetable peeler.

2. Make the Gel

Once the leaf has been peeled, you will see the natural aloe vera gel.

Using a small spoon, scoop it into your blender. Be careful not to include any pieces of the aloe vera skin.

Blend the gel until it's frothy and liquefied, which should only take a few seconds.

At this point, your gel is ready to use. However, if you plan on keeping it for more than 1 week, you should add preservatives.

3. Add Preservatives (Optional)

Vitamins C and E are excellent preservatives that can greatly extend the shelf life of your aloe vera gel.

Though the gel naturally contains some of these vitamins, it's not enough to preserve the gel for longer than 1 week.

Still, you can add more of one or both of these vitamins to extend your gel's shelf life.

Plus, both contain antioxidant and anti-aging properties, so these additions can help boost the skin-protecting power of your aloe vera gel (2Trusted Source, 3Trusted Source).

For every 1/4 cup (60 ml) of aloe vera gel you make, add 500 mg of powdered vitamin C or 400 International Units (IU) of powdered vitamin E — or both.

Simply add the powdered vitamins directly to the blender and mix the gel once more until the additives are fully incorporated.

Storage Directions

Prepared aloe vera gel without added vitamin C or E can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

However, adding one or both of the vitamins significantly increases the shelf life to up to 2 months in the refrigerator.

What's more, you can freeze aloe gel in small batches — for instance, in an ice cube tray — to have small amounts at the ready. Frozen aloe gel can be stored in the freezer for up to 6 months.

Summary

To make aloe vera gel, prepare the leaves, scoop out the natural aloe gel, blend it, and add preservatives if desired.

How to Use Aloe Vera Gel

Aloe vera gel can be applied directly to your skin to address immediate skincare needs, such as sunburn, minor cuts, and skin irritation.

It's an excellent moisturizer for your face and hands and can provide a protective antibacterial barrier for minor wounds (4Trusted Source, 5Trusted Source).

Plus, it has antioxidant properties that may help protect your skin from the damaging effects of excessive sun exposure. Therefore, it's commonly used to provide sunburn relief (6Trusted Source).

Aloe vera gel is rich in unique polysaccharides, which are long chains of natural sugars that researchers believe give aloe its many skin-healing properties (7Trusted Source).

What's more, it's rich in various vitamins and minerals, including vitamins A, C, and E, which can help promote wound healing and healthy skin (8Trusted Source).

Summary

Aloe vera gel can be applied directly to your skin to provide moisture, healing properties for minor cuts or wounds, and relief from sunburns and skin irritations.

The Bottom Line

Aloe vera gel is a great moisturizer for your skin and may help heal and prevent skin damage.

Homemade varieties are a healthy alternative to store-bought products, which may contain harmful additives.

It's easy to make this skin-nourishing gel at home using fresh aloe leaves, a blender, and a knife or vegetable peeler.
