Cats will do that as needed. Cats are all very different and very good judges of character of others! We had a neighbors car that always was on our back deck except at eating time. There were a couple of people that cat would not make friends with when at my house so I did not keep those people as friends. It was a very friendly cat and spent quite a bit of time on my back deck. If people can't make a friend with a cat, I don't think I should be a friend of that person. Cats are very good judges of character. YMMV
