And he gave up the series because of dedicating himself to a film career that doesn't exist.
Bridgerton? Not really, that entire series is more of an anthology with each book/season focusing on different characters. Even if he had wanted to stay on and they somehow worked his character into the subsequent seasons it would have been a very minor guest role.

The reality is far grimmer, I am afraid. There just aren’t that many high profile roles for black actors in Hollywood even now. Which is a shame because he definitely has what it takes to be a leading man.

yes, fans were complaing and insulting him for being different from the books (different = black) so he left after season one and said he didn't want to be known as a romance-comedy actor, but wanted a carreer in action movies, since the genre is usually more receptive of black actors.

You can read about how he signed on for a one season storyline. The whole series is a collection of stories that shift to different character stories each season and he made it clear that he was signing on for the one season. He was given an offer to make additional appearances in the following season and would be paid much more than he was originally, but declined. Here's a clip from one of the older articles:

This can be said about basically every actor lol))
DCU is just starting so they have a chance to grab him, and while MCU may not get him for now, once the current saga end and he new one centered on mutants begins, they can get him too.
Also there are multiple other comic book-based shows and movies being made so if not the big 2, there are lots of other options

BTW he auditioned for GotG Vol. 3 for the role of Adam Warlock which eventually went to Will Poulter. The point is, James Gunn more or less knows some of his capabilities and might just consider him for a role in his new cinematic universe

I think they should cast him as Green Lantern (John Stewart), Cyborg or Firestorm.
